It is true that the utter contempt liberals have for "fly-over" states affects the desire of the rest of the US to use our taxes to help the upper class rebuild homes next to firewood so they can have a picturesque view instead of directing them to the poor who seek the lower property values of land in flood and hurricane susceptible areas
I just moved from there, and in the last big fire lot of middle and lower class people living in inland san diego had their homes destroyed and were totally screwed over by the insurance companies. Parts of San Diego county have still not rebuilt because they lost everything and the greedy insurance companies did not pay up.

Not everyone in southern california lives in Malibu, so don't group them all together.

If he wants to stereotype and group people together then I can play the same game. I know the insurance issues are a big mess. I suspect some of it is due to just now reading the fine print after the fact. Some require brush and debris be cleared to a certain distance from the home and if that isn't followed you've got a problem. But the government didn't make air travel safer, the insurance companies did. They'll do the same thing to homes even if it means making it cost too much to build in the red zones.

it's still a sad thing when people lose their homes, and I still feel bad for them. When you live in an area you need to make sure that you clear brush from around your house. You do need to be responsible living in a real dry climate.

and on the flip side, if you live in an area that could flood (like new orleans) you have to understand what can happen. Insurance companies need to pay up, and it would be nice if the feds step in and help a bit more than they did

Anyone remember these guys?

They should have sold New Orleans back to the french.

Why should any of us have to pay (as tax payers or insurance customers) for beach rebuilding for some dumb pig who insists on building his house of straw on the beach?

People are more scared of the insurance company than the government bureaucracy because that's where their money comes from if an accident occurs. So they are going to placate the insurance company. Not everyone flies an aircraft well insured but look at the crap those people tend to fly. To get insurance on some hunk of junk that FAA rules may let you fly could cost a fortune. The insurance companies can dictate to a large extent via cost or denial of coverage what you can drive, fly, and build and even to what level of proficiency you need to be.

You think that if one person is making a profit then the other guy is getting screwed. Maybe this is the case with your customers but win/win is the norm if you realize it or not.

Ok, I was trying to catch up on this but was caught up on this statement from LouInSD.
states still need federal funds for certain things
Do you realize how much this makes you sound like the liberal wack job that you are? If the bloated, social program laden federal govenment hadnt taken it to begin with the states would have it to spend as was needed. Which is what the US Constitution intended. Of course I wouldnt expect you to know anything about our Constitution, since most poli-sci professors are as wacked out as you are. So of course they arent going to cover that, only their "enlightened opinion" of our great republic.

Oh geez, I should really stick to talking politics on a politics board, these people are numbskulls...

The day you mention the insane spending we do on our bloated military and corporate welfare programs is the day you mave have an ounce of credibility on this issue. Your fuhrer has killed so many social programs it's not funny. Some vital, some not so vital. But you go right ahead and continue your chicken little dance in regards to 'social programs.' This is how we know you are simply regurgitating things you hear on Rush Limbaugh (or one of his many copycats)
since most poli-sci professors are as wacked out as you are.
Yes, you are correct, people who actually study a subject in depth are "wackos", and you know more than they do. I love it! LOL

In true Con fashion, simply pulling things out of your a$$. Your suspicions don't amount to anything. Those fires were so intense that a 100 yard firebreak would have been useless. That fire jumped over 8 lane freeways and spread like crazy. You Cons take right wing talking points to the utter extreme...to the point where it is absolutely ridiculous, it's just comical. How do you expect anyone to take you seriously?

As far as your cut and paste about the heist Texas pulled on CA, its all public record now. Your right wing fables are worthless.

You wingnuts love to talk about how CA is so liberal because you need to create a bogeyman. The truth is that CA has large areas of just rural/agricultural land. These people are largely conservative, (mainly because they have less education) and will and have voted some pretty conservative people into office. That is how we GOT deregulation in the first place. As you know, deregulation is a Repubs wet dream. It means business can rape consumers without ever having to worry about consequences. Libs knew long ago that it was all lies and as soon as you Cons got your way, large groups of people would be raped by you. Well, the proof is in the pudding. You got your wet dream and consumers were raped. Davis did what he could to fix the situation by capping prices because he thought the energy crisis was real and he was trying to protect consumers. Of course after the fact its easy for you cons to try to smear him by blaming everything all on him. Its what you do, blame Dems for all the messes you make. Just as the next Dem Pres will be blamed by you crybabies for all the damage Bush has done to date.

It's the only angle you've got because you surely don't know how to govern. You've proven that, over, and over, and over...

LouInSd seems to skip over the qualifiers and has the Sealerman rhetoric down pat. I know homes were lost that couldn't be saved. I also know the policies in the state didn't help save the ones that could have been saved.
That is how we GOT deregulation in the first place. In case you didnt know, deregulation is a Repubs wet dream. It means business can rape consumers without ever having to worry about consequences.
They didn't get real deregulation. Davis saw to that. They couldn't act as free market entities and couldn't build any new sources to supply the increasing demands. Davis took the states money and bought a short term fix because a long term fix meant he might not get re-elected. Keep drinking the Koolaid and blaming everyone but CA.
Jimco, Sealerman, And Havoc are the ones crossing the bridge
I wouldn't go anywhere with those two. But that's jimco blowing the flute, Sealerman's holding the shaft, and LouInSD is left holding the bag. The wolf represents the harsh reality that would have eaten them up by now if it weren’t so amused by how they prance around.

In conclusion, and in trying to keep this post civil, you are all cordially invited to kiss the fattest part of my ass.
