Hi

I have a Caliber 30 and its a bit nose heavy. What do you guys (people who have a C30 nose heavy) put on the tail to even the heli out? Im kinda a newbie on helis and I don't think sticking just any kind of weight on the tail will do.

Thanks!
Pete

I have spent a lot of time with this. I am moving as much as I can to the rear of the servo frame as well as going to a lighter battery. I am trying to get my Caliber to loose weight. Most all of the easy weight reduction is from the tail. I am now lightening the canopy. I am adapting a Rappy 60 windshield to the Caliber canopy. I will have some pics on RC Universe soon. I have been told by a number of other Caliber owners that their ships are not nose heavy and I do not understand how they did it.

The caliber has a tail mounted servo and it's still nose heavy. I got rid of the tail fins except for the bottom vertical tail to keep the tail rotor out of the grass and I strapped the 1400 mAh battery to the cross members behind the fuel tank. With the canopy on it balances just about right. I don't have my camera right now so I'll post a pic tomorrow.

I know you are new to the hobby and some of these ideas might be overwhelming. But, they are just suggestions:

helped
60 Tail Blades
Extended Sceadu Tail Fin (for the 60 Blades)
Aluminum Angle Bracket to mount the Gyro behind the mainshaft
Shorter Carbon Tail Pushrod to move Tail Servo further out on boom
Lightened the canopy
Weston Pipe
Mount Header Tank Aft of Mainshaft

hurt
I got rid of ridiculous horizontal stab

Every little bit helps.

There are pictures of my C30 at http://www.fath.freeservers.com under the photo link. Warning, there are pop-up ads.......sorry.

Here's the pic. It's a little over 6 lbs. minus the canopy.

C30 Canopy

Thanks for the suggestions, I will use them and modify my C30. But also, will the canopy that pacific rim helis sells cut down the weight? See link:

http://checkout.verisign.com/cgi-bi...42446&2D1995975

for one, it looks way better, and second, I can get a nice paint scheme on it.

mrhook,

It's from Quick. I got mine from Rick's. Definately a worthwhile upgrade.

CK had some good advice. I have fabricated a 2 angle brackets to allow my battery to be mounted behind the mainshaft (where the gyro is on some helis). I've had to shift a couple of things forward now that the battery is aft of the mainshaft. But overall, I am happier with the balance now.

Before I moved the battery, I found the C30 was "grabby" when making high speed inverted backwards banked turns. I'm hoping with the CG spot-on the mainshaft that she will be a little more predictable inverted backwards. When the weather breaks, I'll know more.
