Sluggish in the cold

Ryan, I have HS56's in my 450SA and flew 3 packs in the cold (32-34) recently without the issue you mention. Align 35G ESC on mine. My tail belt is very loose when the heli is cold. I would have tightened it a smidge if the tools would have been with me. You must have something binding with the temp change, and I would check into the lube on your main shaft for the swash and mixing base as a possible culprit. I always store/transport the heli out in the cold, keep the packs warm and use the discharged packs to warm up the hands after each flight So far so good, have to see if my packs survive this winter better than last year!

Thanks, Rotorhead for the feedback. I was wondering if the swash was binding up. I'll try a few things and post my findings.

Thanks again.

swash is getting tight/draggy in the cold

Okay, I tested it out and it seems that my metal swash is getting tight. It doesn't bind up completely, but the whole thing picks up a ton of resistance. Those little servos are barely able to move it, so they don't re-center unless you give it full stick in the other direction.

So you mentioned lube. Is it as simple as someone having used the wrong lube? What do I do now? Blast it clean with ??? nitro force or something, and then re-lube it? Does white lithium work in the cold, or what's the magic stuff to use?

Thanks!
Ryan

Lube

I'd clean the swash, mixing base, and main shaft with whatever you have to decrease it. Lithium isn't good for this application, I use TriFlo sparingly. Your looking for a film that isn't apt to get thick in the cold.
