How much collective pitch do you have set at the top. If your head speed drops below about 1550 you will get some "bobbing" with most helicopters today because they all run a pretty stiff damping system.

Also too much collective pitch will also cause the engine to heat up.

Hawk pro stock muffler

is there anyone out there who is running a 37 with the stock back pipe? And has it gave problems?
I had an issue at the beginning when I was running my engine rich at the beginning to break it in. After three flights the engine was idling perfectly and was choking on spool up, Rich or lean made no difference. Found my problem after tearing down the carburetor and removing the muffler to access it. During muffler reinstallation I found the problem.

Reason: Oil was accumulating in the muffler and I guest was blocking exhausts port on spool up.

Solution: Lean the engine a litle bit and tilt the muffler between flights to remove excess oil .

I guest “OldFart” is right this muffler is too restrictive for this engine.
I would like to have is opinion on the Century millennium pipe combination with the Os 37?????? I am still at the hovering stage but I might have to look into upgrading that part of the heli in a near future.

there were 2 guys at our field running the stock pipe with a 37. The motor seemed to run fine, but surely the was more power available with a better exhaust....

Well here I am months later and much more heli experance under my belt. I have no idea what went on but I set the heli up a bit better linkages where not all at 90 degrees. srapper her all up and took it out. No glitchs this time and no bobbing. Not sure what was causing the problems but all is fine now. And thats after 3 tanks later and still going strong.
Thanks to all who suggested ideas in order to get this puppy fixed.

I run a stock Hawk Pro with an OS .37 and the black pipe. two years now, second motor, same pipe. Runs great. Never an issue at all. I'm guessing it's mechanical/radio setup.

I use 15% nitro in it; lean, but am switching to 30% here shortly.

As per my previous post, after I found my issue of oil accumulating in the muffler and draining it after each flight the stock muffler was working fine.

I later upgraded it to the CN3037 as per "OLDFART" suggestion and I notice that the engine breath a lot better, run cooler, more power and I can run it not as rich which eliminate the oil accumulation in the muffler. And it looks nice with that polish aluminum.

If you want more oomph from your engine (OS 37) that muffler is a good upgrade.

Your going to have the same issues with any other brand of heli if you dont find the reason your glithing. I have been flying hawks for several years never a issue with one. People who blame a brand of heli for thier lack of fixing any issues like glitching or other problems crack me up.

Well I'm glad you had great experances with Hawks. I guess i'm cursed. I have gone through this heli many times and many people at my club has tryed to figgure it out. So why bother, My take is if a heli spends more time on the bench with the same problem then flying. Time to get rid of it.Its quite antequated anyways. Its sure a high maintance heli.
Cheers to those who can hold them together

high maintenance?? since when? my hawk has been less to keep up and going then my rappy was or my trex600 was Yes I do not own them anymore. I dont care for the trex at all the rappy was fine but the hawk is a good heli does what I want when I want as I want with no issues. Everyone I know that have had any issues with thiers were not the faul of the heli but user error or a radio problem. in my gallery all my hawks are a min of 2 years old and lots of flights and I have had to replace 2 main gears and one link in over 2 years of them flying.

well if you have had the glitch this long and you have been over the heli many many times I'm betting the glitch is not from the heli, have you swapped out the servos 1 by 1, that includes the Rx and gyro

(I can't remember if your running PPM or PCM) I have been told that a bad bearing will never interfere with PCM (as I have been told) so if your using PPM did you check the swash for a notchy bearing ??

high maintenance,, not at all !!

in 6 years of flying the Century 30/50 air frame I have found them to be quite reliable, build them good, set them up good to fly good, use good electronics and you can fly them all summer even all year and never have a problem, if asked I would say 6 out of 10 of my crashes were do to dumb thumbs, 3 were do to my setup mistakes, and 1 was do to electronic failure..
