Kevo,
Good to hear your back.
Yea, dial up is a little tough to take after DSL.
What really messes with the stall speed is the heavy camera.
I do believe that covering the bottom of the wing improved the lift and reduced the stall speed, but those gains were lost with the additional weight of the camera.
As you see in the video, I always hand launch and too lazy to run. Check out the angle of attack this thing gets on climb out.
All this was a unexpected added benifit, what I was really after was stiffening the wing to get rid of the wing flutter.
It has been real windy here lately and the wing flutter would only get worse heading into that wind. Then one wing would twist and the airplane would do this "death spiral" which could only be corrected by cutting power and dropping airspeed enough to "unload" the twisted wing.
I am going to reprogram the raido to use flaparons, then it will be slow enough to catch the plane on final approach instead of landing.
Flaparons will stop this puppy in its tracks.

LOL, Hey Robby, is that snow on the prop? Whoa Whoa, let me rephrase that. Is that snow on the prop from flying that Slow Stick or did you just dip the prop in snow to make it LOOK legit. You know I have to ask. I mean when I talked to you on the phone yesterday you were in the middle of I don't know how many beers and you slurred something about making chocolate chip cookies in the nude with the wife. Excuse me, I will now go bleach out my eyes after that visual! Ha!
Merry Christmas to you too Robby, and all of the rest of you. Have a great and profitable new year.

Beer turned into red then white wine after the sun went down, I wish I could go back and not do that wine thing. Hell, I’d be sick if the only thing I did was eat the chocolate chip cookies.

Good eye there Kevin, the wind blow the SS off the hood and that’s where the snow on the prop came from. There’s no way I could fly safely today dude. I got up this morning and the Jeep was sitting on the edge of the volleyball court in the back yard, apparently I announced to the girls: “We’re going sledding” and we took off in the Jeep, I’m happy to report no external damage. I need my rest now.

Merry Christmas to all and to all a good night.

Hi Guys,

I read a lot of this post cool stuff.

I was hoping you could help me with my shopping list.

Here's what I've got so far:

LXZK94 APC 9x6 Thin Electric Propeller @ 2

Does the motor come with a mount??

Air Thunder Battery 11.1V 2200mA ? (Is 190 grams - too heavy?)

I already have this converter, is this correct?
http://www.dimensionengineering.com...icro.htmLXGVS1

Park 480 Brushless Outrunner Motor, 1020Kv

Castle Creations Phoenix-35 Brushless ESC @ 1

LXAZF2 Dubro Super Lite Wheels 3" (2) @ 2

Where do I buy for wire gear for these wheels?

LXHCJ3 Slow Stick NPS Slope Glider Park Flyer EP ARF 46.3" @ 3

Hitec HS-85BB Micro BB HS/HT Servo U @ 4

I need some extensions, and an extra receiver.

Tape, Misc "stuff".

Plus what ever I'm forgetting. LOL

I have flow before, but no electrics.

I also will be using a 2.4 GHz transmitter from Airtronics.

Thanks tons for your help.

Thanks much,

dan

Dang Dan, looks great dude!
The link on the converter is broke and doesn't work. You get the wire at Home Depot or Lowes. Be sure to get 2 or 3 Slow Stick kits so you will have extra parts. You will need a camera mount. I will steer you in the right direction on that. You are off to a great start. Let us know if you have any questions dude! Edit: I see you already got 3 Slow stick kits. Wow, awesome, just not use to people reading the thread in very much detail before they ask question. Way to go!

Dan,

Welcome! Slow sticks area heavy haulers and that Air Thunder is no problem. Now that 9x6 prop with a pay load my be though. I'm using a 12x3.8 with that motor, great vertical and slows down great for short field landings.

Thanks Guys,

I see "pusher" props listed. Are they just formed backwards from regular props to have the hardware on the back side? I think I want to have a pusher, undecided right now.

I have a Mc Master Carr about 15 minutes from where I work.
THEY HAVE EVERYTHING. LOL I use their catalog at work. It's about 4 inches think. I'm thinking of getting my hands on some Garolite G10. Flat pieces to make a motor mount, and maybe tubes to reinforce the wing stabs. ? Have to check the weight of it.

I was also contemplating buying Arrow shafts before going over to M- Carr to see if I could find a tube of G10 to fit around the arrow shafts snugly. I would cut short pieces, maybe 2 inches or so, to be used to join the arrow shafts together, like as a coupler. It might make an awesome frame/wing stab set up.

Just some thoughts. What do you guys think?

Hi,

well at last i ordered my 2 slowsticks, probably coming after x-mas.. really looking forward to the build.

Just one open factor do give: THE MOTOR.

I have been in close contact to burnt and i know everyone loves the Park 480. I'd really like to use it, but believe it or not, nobody sells it, nor in germany, switzerland, austria, or england, at least in all the online stores i looked into.

Now i need some help. Has anyone else got an idea which Motor i could use, that is not made by E-flight? I'd be really appreciative to hear about some motors that made it work, not branded eflight
Or if someone has a park 480 up for sale, please shoot me a PM...

Otherwise, i will be watching closely...

Daniel

I apologize guys, I was gone for a couple weeks and I have been playing catch up with my computer business ever since I got back and have been smokin busy. Which means I haven't been very diligent in posting and helping people out as much as I would like. I will try harder to get in here and be more helpful.

Daniel, Any name brand electric motor would be fine. Is there any other possiblity that will work for you at a local hobby store in your area? Let us know if so and we will try to hook you up with some spec comparisons and get you as close to the Park 480 as possible.

Daniel,

This is my local hobby store:

http://www.alshobbyshop.com/store/index.asp

They've been in business for 61 years.

I just bought the same motor today myself. They also do international shipments.

Their price was $69.99 don't forget the speed controller. ha ha

I hope that helps.

Daniel,

Like Kevin said, any brand will do. Get a brushless that’s rated 225 up to 275 watts and one that has 900 up to 1100 kv rating. This will give you the same power as a Park480, and there’s a 50% chance it will be a better motor to boot. I like the 12x3.8 slow fly prop and I don’t care what other people say that prop is so so sweet.

Ok, thanks a lot guys, i am trying to stay out of buying a motor abroad, just isn't worth the hassle of having to go to customs etc...

But that was a good direction with approx 275 watts... one question, would 1400kv be too much?

1100 is high and 1400kv, I just wouldn't go that high. Do the math 1400x12 that's not a very good number in my book Daniel. Look just a little hard dudester.

Merry Christmas to all you guys!

Wish I had some snow here in Oklahoma, its certainly cold enough, just no moisture, and the wind is rediculous right now . Last week we had 2 days were the wind was gusting to 50-60 mph, one day out of the South the 2 days later out of the North, it sucks.
