I know this has been discussed many times but i just wanted to know what are the latest opinions. I have an YS91 which i'm gonne use in a Fury Extreme with a MP2. So now i have to choose for the 8.18 or 8.45 ratio. I will be using the Fury for 3D and i know most people say go for the 8.45. Are there people who are using the 8.18 or have tried both?

Best regards, Arjan.

DavidH has been flying the YS Big Blocks as long as anyone...he probably gets a Christmas card from his fuel dealer! Good advise though...

The 91 will run fine on the 8.45. It will also drink fuel, make more noise, and be wasting the stump pulling torque of the engine.

As the other threads describes, the 91 is going to do its best work at about 8.0 or even well below. In a contest application, it pulls like a freight train at 7.6(6):1 (prototype gearing for Cliff Hiatt on his Fury/91). Anything around 8:1 will give you a bit more gearing advantage for really tight 3D. 8.18 is what we have now. More ratios will follow soon

Results from multiple pilots are suggesting that the mid eight ratios on these second generation big blocks really waste a lot of the potential of the motor. I've used 8.18 on my 80 from the get-go and never looked back.

Thanks for all your advice!! I think i will go for the 8.18 then. I also prefered this ratio, it's just that so many people say they use 8.45 for 3D that started my doubts. Thanks for your help.

Best regards, Arjan.
