I found while switching from the 16t to the 15t t/r pinion that all the pressure was actualy on my 70t gear and not the bearing, as when I put the smaller 15t in my 70t gear had only .006 clearance, the lower bearing block appears OK, tried a different gear assy from CT , same thing, no room to spare so I added a 10mm shim of .010 to give it some flex room, it acts like the lower bearing/block does not sit low enough, yet the bottom of the block is about flush with bottom of frame and bearing is flush with top of block.

adam If your pinion is to tight to the tail drive gear then loosen the bearing blocks ( lower mainshaft and front tail input ) move the 0832-2 and the 0233 bearingblocks and the shaft up as far as it will go then loosen the upper mainshaft retaining collar and be sure the main gear assembly is up tight to the lower main shaft bearing. once this is assured then lower the tail shaft assembly back down untill you get the proper clearance . if it seems like the tail shaft doesnt go up enough make sure the 0832-2 is sliding up and down properly Hope this is what you need Tom

Tom, my problem is when the gear is up snug to the lower bearing block there is not enough clearance to the frames, ie the 70t gear can easily rub the frames with little effort. Either my lower bearing is too far up or the frame is little bigger than it shoud be.

No spacers on drawings or in text, my old custom with the black gear has this (actually has the small thrust brg), I tried a plastic spacer that I had from it and it was too thick, I ended up using a washer/shim from a old blade grip.

Dave, just to clairify.

When you go from 16 to 15t pinion, there is no shimming of the split gear? You just lower the 15t to get a good gear mesh?

I have exactly the same problem with my Pro2k.I'm building it now and when i saw this tread i checked it.It's not rubbing the frame, but the clearance is so small you can't get a piece of paper between the frame and the upper bevel gear.Hope someone have a solution to this.

David,
When I changed to a 15t on my CT, I did exactly as you described, but it looks like I'll have to reshim the auto hub If I ever want to do this on the Fury. (you know, since the front pinion support is fixed)

Is that what you found?
