Does that include the carb or just the moding?

You send the carb, and they add the Cline reg. The reg is over $60, so the labor charge is modest.

OK! I already have two Cline regulators and carbs that need modifying. Anyone know how much he'll take for the work? Does he accept VISA?

Perhaps you can help me understand this. I am about to send a 91sz(nonpumped). They install the regulater on the carb and tap the backplate. But isnt there supposed to be a "pump" on the back plate like my 91szpumped?
thanks

There is no pump. Check out this website, wander around and read - it will explain how the system works.

OK can you just buy the Cline setup and DIY it or is there some magic that OMI performs on the non-pumped SZ carb?

I also noticed that it says in no case should the controller be mounted directly to the engine?

James does a good bit of work to the carb to make the Cline work right. There are a series of operations that must be done to the spraybar assy's and the needle seats not to mention the spraybar itself.

Suffice it to say that the labor charge is well worth the work James does, and the price he charges for the Cline reg itself in the process is a very fair deal.

Here's an old post I'm resurrecting for you. It will clear up the 'doing it yourself' notion. There is more to this than mounting a plastic box on the carb and installing a checkvalve.....

OMI Cline Mod for SZH

James at OMI modifies 2 internal passageways inside an OS 60M-C carburetor. These mods are done to increase internal fuel flow. He then mounts a Cline controller to the carburetor. Here is a photo illustrating the internal mods to the carb.

Here is the controller, as supplied by Cline. (James does not manufacture this component)

The fuel tank is pressurized by a unique one-way check valve with the pressure from the crankcase of the 91 SZH. To utilize this pressure James will tap the backplate and add a pressure nipple. The checkvalve is inserted into a short piece of fuel line that goes between the backplate and the fuel tank. This forces the fuel to the controller under pressure.

The controller is mounted directly to the carb's banjo fitting. The carburetor’s suction acts on the diaphragm in the controller causing it to open the fuel valve in the controller. It is a demand controller; thus as the carburetor’s fuel line suction increases, the amount of fuel the controller passes increases. When the engine is stopped, no fuel can enter the carburetor.

Notion dispelled. Has anyone ever dispelled anything besides a notion? A rumor perhaps....can't think of much else and its been a while since I have dispelled a notion.

I'm still curious why its mounted directly to the carb against Clines recommendations though.

Best to get through to James on the phone first, give him your CC details verbally and agree the work. No doubt though, if you just shipped them off, he'd be in contact somehow and would not mess you about. He's a quality, professional outfit.
