I have been having trouble with my OS 37 giving me inconsistent revs so a couple of you said to check the bearings.

So I have took the engine out and when I held on the fan and the engine there is about a 1mm play in the crank shaft and I was wondering if this normal?

Also when i took the back plate of I could see the ball bearings so I decided to compare with my OS 32 and noticed a difference as you can see by the pictures and I was wondering if this is normal?

The other thing I have just noticed is that when I rotate the crank on the 32 there is a pop at the end of each full revolution and 0n the 37 there is not.

Depends in which direction, but normally there is no play.

Your 50 has a non web crank or has had the mod done.

I imagine your 32 is the non ringed version, when cold ringed engines can allow gasses to pass the ring, it should still have compression though

What I have noticed on it, is that the washer has been left on between the fan and the bearing, would this of possibly caused the erratic running? and the play?

Play mayby, running no.

You mayby having clutch issues if the washer has been left in place

Rusty bearing

The bearing on the left motor is pretty rusty. The crank web hides the bearing on the right motor.
Regarding the play you speak of, are you refering to the play between the crank pin and the bottom end of the connecting rod? I.e. the brass ring where the connecting rod meets the crank. There is supposed to be a little play between the two. That play is there so that oil can get in and lubricate.
I would definately replace the rear bearing in the motor on the left. Usually when the outside of the bearing looks like that, the races and balls are corroded too.

If you can move the crankshaft in and out then look at the back plate, if theres swirl marks on it then it can heat up and cause you tuning grief, it means the fan isnt tight enough, there should not be any in out play in the crank shaft when the fan is installed correctly. What helicopter is it? Some require the washer, some need it removed.
