I have a Hobbico Quick Field Charger MKII, which I purchased essentially to top off RX batteries in between flights at the field. I have since upgraded my flightpacks to JR 2400 MAh batteries, and my problem is that if I set the charge rate above 500 ma, they false-peak almost immediately If I set it at 400 ma or below, after 2 hours, the charger times out and starts beeping, so I can't even slow-charge them at home using it...

I wonder whether the wires I have from the charger to the batteries may be causing the problem. I can't understand the charger itself would run that poorly, it's just ridiculous. The wires are regular servo extensions. I have two, one which is about a foot long, the other is two feet long. It makes no difference which one I use.

Do I need a more expensive charger?

there's no need to charge after every 1 or 2 flights w/ that
battery.

not suprising that at a fairly high rate w/ a mostly charged
pack that it false peaks quickly. Many chargers have an adj.
delay to prevent that sort of premature ejac, er, peaking

I beg to differ...

I agree, it SHOULDN'T be required to charge that battery. That is why I bought two of them. But that is also assuming they are charged properly, which I don't think they are because of the charger signing off early.

To explain better, I'll start the heli, it's full green on the
voltwatch, but after one flight, it's already going yellow a bit. And no, it's not a tight link or any other reason burning up the battery. It's the same whether I discharge it (I have a BR-2000) or not...

I am sure my batteries are not getting charged the way they should. I'm going to try borrowing a friend's charger to test this theory.

Another question: How long should I leave a discharged JR2400 on a standard Futaba 100 ma wall charger for it to be topped up fully? I'm guessing 24 hours, but I'm sure it's more due to inefficiencies. It's probably more like 30 hours, correct?

Voltwatch is garbage?

Great. More new info for me. I had no idea. What is a better product to use for on-board voltage monitoring?

A friend of mine was showing me his HRpoly-X in his T-rex. That worked really well, is there something similar for NiCd's?
