After installing the purple cooling fan to my Raven 50 yesterday, rebuilding it and re-routing my electronics - first start up has loosened the fan on the clutch

Now u could say that i should have screwed it on harder and used more red loctite - which is true.

But i gotta say that it really sux having to strip the whole heli down again (2hrs rebuild turnaround time 4 me).

Anyone else have these kinda problems? Any easier options? Is Century the only manufacturer that doesn't have the motor just pop out the bottom??

All comments welcome

I had the motor out quite a few times on my raven 50 and was able to get it out in less than ten minutes.
was kind of a pain, but since i switched to another brand they too have things that bug me.

The Hawk/Falcon/Raven frames were actaully supposed to be modular in that you can remove certain parts to get to your intended ara to repair.

I just remove the upper frame (rotorhead and tailboom attached whenever I want to work on the engine. The otehr alternative is to remove the landing gear then the removal of the engine from below.

2 hours to work on the heli seems abit long (for me) but I guess I know my heli well enough to work quickly to do any repair.

No problems, thanks guys

Used Ray's advice, typed the topic, went to the gym then came back, removed the mast & tail (find that easier when it's in less fragile peices than one bulk bit).

Took out the 4 screws holding the upper frames to the lower, then the 2 screws holding the batt tray to the lower. Whole top half comes off without too much effort then fan shroud off the front easy.

Yes the nut on the top of the fan had come loose. Lots of red loctite, more tension than last time (altho i did do the jamming the wooden dowel rod in the back of the engine trick) and the heli is back together.

Good reading advice for anyone else having a hard time pulling their Raven apart

Too bad it's a hot windy 43 degrees C outside, have to wait to test fly a few more days

Thanks everyone.

I got it even easier. Well at least it works very well for me. Take the 2 screws out of the bottom of the radio tray. Now it will rotate freely up. Remove the 4 engine bolts so the engine can float a bit. Now remove the front 2 upper side frame bolts and loose the horizontal fin. Now the whole upper frame can tilt up and back to get at the engine. It takes a little bit of practice up i have it down to about 5 min to get the engine completely out.

P.S. i wish it was that hot here. Its -15C (5F) and getting much colder.
