It seems the only way to get paint to stick to these canopies is doing the flashing method with the torch so water will not bead up. We'll maybe not!!!!! I may have stumbled upon another method and a lot safer than the torch. I sell appliances and I new that the glass ceramic cooktop cleaner is some bad stuff! Of course it has to be to clean that gunk off baked on glass cooktops. The cleaner is called CERAMA BRYTE cooktop cleaner you probably have some under you sink if you have a ceramic cooktop in your house. This stuff has citric acid in it. What I did was get a new scotch brite pad and squirt the cleaner on the canopy or the pad and start cleaning until it didn't bead water and then clean with dishwashing detergent and WOW NO BEADING with no sandpaper . The pad does it just enough to scratch it up . I put my 1st coat of bumper primer on it and let it dry overnight and trust me it's there to stay. Could't even get it to peel jerking masking tape off it. Well if the primer holds that good no reason the paint wont. I will do a follow up when completed. Be currious for someone else opinion on this. Hey and it's a great cleaner for the muffler LOL

And thats my 3 cents

Hey sounds it might be worth a try. Did the stovetop cleaner have a nasty strong odor to it? I've used some that were horrid though they advertised a lemon scent.

Well I got it painted today hummm dont know yet if this method is gonna work or not gonna let it dry for a day. I did have one tiny spot try to peel it could have been a spot I missed when cleaning.I will post pics in a day or so. Think im just gonna make one out of wood at least you can paint that LOL. I'll just need a biger engine to get it off the ground. Will a chain saw engine fit a TIGER ??? Gonna have to ask JB about the one.

LOL...there's a topic on RR somewhere about making canopies out of paper mache. They actually looked pretty good and I was thinking of doing one for my TRex a long time ago.

Looks good! Have fun with the test flights. I know my paint takes about three days to fully cure. Are you going to fly her with the canopy on?

Are you going to put an exhaust deflector on your pipe?

Awsome Job!
Let me know how it holds up. I just might be sending you a canopy to paint! Don't forget to put the deflector on it. I would hate to see all the oil and stuff get all over your super project.
