I just installed the Just Go Fly 500TH motor. I like it much better then the align 430L motor.

Here is my power setup:
JGF500th
TP2100's
14T pinon
Hyperion 325 blades
3100 head speed.
+- 11.5 pitch
CC35 100-90-100 curve no gov.

I had orginally installed a 13T, but found the head speed around 2850-2900 avg. So I put the 14T on and it made a big increase. Now at 3100 head speed, carrys the pitch very well, continus flips, cont. rolls and no bogging even if you hose the collective management. It might bod a hair, but not much. The best thing about this setup is I flew 5 minutes on the align 430 13T and usually put back in the pack around 1400mah. I flew two packs this morning a bit over 5 minutes doing the same thing and only put in around 1320. The motor feels very cool to the touch, took temp reading, was like 85 deg (outside temp is about 50 deg.). The TP2100 pack temp was around 95 deg. I am very happy with this setup.

Now, I don't know how it compares to the medusa, or other motors. Littlepiston on here is getting a medusa and when he gets his we can compare.

I will put my watt meter on the heli and do some hovering and pull stick climb outs and record those numbers and report back here.

I am pretty sure this does not have more power then the medusa 28-40-3400, but I would think it can hold it's own with the 28-32-3400 one. But this motor is like 57 grams, and runs/stays cool. Nice on the batterys.

Have some numbers now

Fresh off a pack 3200 hs.
Hover amps are at 13.25 amps

Full pitch 11.5 climb out.... 27.13amps

This is using a Watt's up Meter attached to the heli.

hope these numbers help.

Hi all,

What was the difference in flight time? Sounds like a sweet setup. Running cool is great!!

Cheers,

Flight time for me is the same.

I set my timer at 5 minutes when I had the align 430L. I do the same with this this one. Each time I have flown it (about 5 times now) I have put back in 1350-1400. about the same for the 430L. However, I am at 3100-3200 hs, and the climb out is much better and much less bogging.

The batts seem to run cooler and motor stays cool.

I've been following the progress of this motor and I'm interested in getting one at some point. Good to hear the results you are having

noahb, what esc are you running? I am doing a review of this as well on the freak. So far I like the motor as well. Several others that have seen this heli with this motor are ditching their 430s, simply because this motor has more jam, and runs nice and cool and really pulls to the bitter end. I am running 13 tooth with the New FlightPower 2170 packs and Jazz esc and seeing 3060rpm at 75% on my 40-6-18 esc governed.

Here are a few pics to demonstrate the size of the 500th in comparison to a NEU 1107-2Y and also shown in the little rex.
Hope you do not mind noah...

Not at all. The more post, the better the info.

Well, I went to fly it again today and when I went to spool up it made a terriable noise. I found that the motor was loose. So I removed the motor. Come to find out, the top bearing was shot. In fact, there where only a few balls left in it. Not sure what caused the failure. Now before anyone jumps in and says my mesh was too tight... I can tell you that I had it set on the loose side and checked the gear in all points around it. Everybody knows that align for the life of them can't produce a nice round gear. hehehe

anyway, removed the bearing and installed another one. Will keep an eye on it for the next few days. I think it failed as there was not any lube in the bearing. Not the fault of JGF, but the bearing mfg. You will be surprised as to how little if any lube is in bearings now days. Thanks for the greaser...I now have two nicely lubed bearings.

as for my setup, I have a Castle Creations 35 speed control. With my 13T pinion, the only way I hit 3000hs was with a pack just off charge and at 0 pitch. with the 14T, I hit 3200 and after about 3-4 minutes, it's at 3100hs in hover. It sure climbs like a rocket. I like this motor more and more.

Where are you guys getting pinions for this? I thought align only makes 11-13-15 in the bigger sizes?

yea, but I believe that he is sellig 48 pitch pinions and not .5 mod pinions. Those will shred the main gear sooner rather than later.

He has 11T-15T in .5modus pinions.

He has 10T, but it's the 48pitch pinion.

I am waiting on weather at this moment, without being able to really wring it out I am not going to put the FDR on it. I have however been able to directly fly it against a rex of a friends with the Medusa on it (32-3400), the power imho is more from the 500th, not much but it is there. The best part is the motor and the lipos are cool when you land, something that can not be said for the Medusa as we know you can cook eggs on that bad boy. I have not actually tried the 40 series of Medusa yet, how is it in comparison?? // Once weather is better and I can get some flights in I will be providing FDR graphs, then I will move on to trying 14tooth, then 4S with 10 and 11tooth. That will then complete the tests on this motor and hopefully will have some video to accomadate all of this. Cheers. I will be reporting those events at the freak, cheers.

BTW JGF now has mod .5 10 tooth in stock for this motor as well, that would open the door to the 4S users. 10 or 11tooth will be the ticket for 4S having similar kv as teh NEU 1107-2Y which I ran on 10 tooth.
