If I took my 4200 mah 4.8v ni-mh using sub c's and made it into 2 packs at 2100mah, could I take a futaba j "y" harness and plug it into my battery connection on my rx and hook the 2 bttery packs to the "y" harness?

How would I have to charge the battery packs then if I did that?

The same way as before, plug the charger into the connection off of my manual switch and it would charge both battery packs like it was a whole pack??

That way I can put one half of the main pack in the back of my heli to even out the weight?

Thanks for your info guys.

I don't think there is a problem with running the Rx with parallel packs, but I don't think it is a good idea to charge them in parallel. The charger will not sense the peak voltage properly and leave one pack not fully charged.

I would think the best way to do parallel packs would be two switches and two charging plugs in parallel. This would have the added advantage of providing redundant switch harnesses.

It won't work...if you do that, you will have 2 ea 4200 mah 2.4 volt packs.

The government cannot give you anything without first taking it from someone else.

What if I broke the pack into 2 packs, but took the one pack and put it in the back of my heli, then run the wires right into the other packs wires?

Like a T connectionon both the neg and pos wires?

Then I could charge it like one whole pack, right?

Sorry, what you want to do, with one 4.8 volt pack, cannot be done. You have four cells at 1.2 volts per cell, and anyway you try to divide it, you end up with 2 ea 2.4 volt packs, and all you accomplish is to add an unneeded connector in the middle.

So how can I series the 2 half packs together so the receiver will use the battery as one whole pack 4200 mah 4.8v?

Or is that what you are saying, is you can't if it is broken up?

Do you have like a diagram or a website address to a diagram?

The positive from pack A to RX. Negative from pack B to RX. Remaining negative from pack A to the positive from pack B. Charge as normal.

What I'm saying is, you have the exact same thing right now. If you split them up, you will not gain any redundancy, you will only add a connector in the middle that has the potential to fail.

A very simple battery rule...cell in series add in voltage, but cells in parrallel add in capacity.

The government cannot give you anything without first taking it from someone else.

Ok I see that about what you said about the redundency.
I want the same 4200mah 4.8v power. All I want to change is to make the one pack into 2 packs so I can put half of the whole pack in the rear of my heli so I can even out my weight on my heli. So I do not want to chane the power of the battery in any way, just the physical part of the pack.

ok, great. now i can get some of this weight off the nose.

what if i just took the whole pack and put it in the back without splitting it up? that would be too much weight in the back, right?

Perhaps I should clarify, pack A and pack B in my post above are 2 cell packs made fron your existing 4 cell pack. Split your pack, wire as described, use solder joints and shrink tubing, no extra connectors. Plug into your switch harness, charge as you always have. No problem.

Yes you can slit the pack to help CG issues as long as you retain the correct wiring so the supply remains at 4.8V.

If Yug is about he did just this with his Zero G raptor

If your objective is to fly forever without charging, just get an on-board alternator.
