Hi guys,

I find that clipping the tail pushrod to the boom, using that little clip thing actually bends the push rod, and causes a lot of tension.

Is it really necessary? The rod is a lot more straight and true when let to hang free beneath.

Any thoughts?

I would positioning the mounts and servo in a way that there is no binding. You have to experiment. It may not matter too much but I believe it will make your servo and gyro work harder to counter act the flexing and bobbing of the push rod.

Leaving the pushrod totally unsupported is probably not a bad idea from a resonance standpoint.....(edit: ooopppsss, meant to say not a good idea !!)

Many use a small strip of velcro fastened to the tail boom and then very lightly looped around the push rod.....that way there is no friction and the rod is prevented from going into resonance....

Or you could replace your pushrod and pitch slider with HS1198, which uses a metal pushrod and two seperate standoffs. Small version of 600 setup. Works good.

I use Johnnychimpo's method--adjusting the mounts will line things up so there's no bend in the rod through the clip. Plus, I cut off part of the end of the clip so it doesn't grasp the rod so tightly to reduce friction, and put a touch of silcone there to make it even more slippery. Everything works great.
