I feel you guys pain. Got a hobby store approx 20 mins from the fire station I work at but owner is an old arogant jerk. He has done all and seen all per him. Last time I was in there a woman and her daughter walked in and did an about face and walked back out after he continued cussing and cussing and cussing. It even took me off guard and I spend most of my time with a bunch of crazy firefighters. Now I drive approx 90 miles to awesome hobby store and try to give them every bit of my business. I will never go to the other hole in the ground again.

sbalder, you hit the nail on the head. Most HT "owners" that I have come in contact with were simply employees who got "convinced" to buy in or franchise for one reason or the other. They are not trained in business in any way. They are at the mercy of HT or their own inexperience. It's a tough position to be in. That's why as TMoore stated above, we are very blessed to have Chris and his shop here in Central Tennessee!

i had a similair experience about 10 years back but unfortunately the owner and his five henchmen tried to physically throw me out, by the time i made it to the door the shop was complelty destroyed( i just stood still and they tried to catch me but for some reason kept missing and they ALL ended up falling through all the stands and the shelving) and i had the owner hanging off my leg, the last thing i could do to remove him was fling him through the balsa wood section wich pretty much finished the job.

That's Brutal...the LHS were I shop are all pretty good, they will spend the time with you only if you are browsing...one owner took back 4 new servos 30 days after I bought them. I order a bunch of parts from the same owner with no deposit, he said don't worry rather it get here first before you have your money tied up in case it's late.

Other store will offer a club discount even if you don't belong to a club.

Another owner took parts of a demo model and give them to me and said this will get you back in the air...pay me later when I figure out the cost.

Anyways...I hope you get better service soon.

Gord.

Is luck because he also has Mikes Hobby Shop, and it is a large hobby shop. Not a lot of heli stuff but has everything else.

jontherooster... just come back to San Diego man! at least they guys at Discount would treat you right...

being a hobby shop employee, it personally bugs me when the employees of other shops as well as owners treat the customers like scum. when you see the local mom and pop shop go out of business, its not because of people not buying goods from them, its from the people that work there and their customer service.

I am sorry to those of you that have had poor experiences at hobby shops. I have had one myself, and i will never go back there again. It is a good thing i work at a hobby shop that has been in the San Diego area for 30 years and the owner as well as the employees are well known in the R/C community here in San Diego!

Y'all got it rough. The LHS here in Cookevegas is the shizznitz, man. Chris takes care of me and all the other dudes that fly around town and in the general area. We have setup clinics and invite folks to the local flying fields all the time.

Is it a perfect situation all the time? No, but Chris tries hard to take care of all of us and anyone that comes in from out of town.

I can't bitch, it's a great store.
What happens in CookeVegas, stays in CookeVegas...
TM you are the Shizznitz.

Good experience, I went to Trains and Lanes in Easton, PA with my kids recently. Mostly for me as I'm finally getting into heli's. They had a realflight sim set up for people to try and my daughter (who has no interest in RC) was trying it while I shopped around. I came back to see an older gent helping her out and was a little suspicious but watched from a ways away and I couldn't believe it, she was getting the hang of flying a plank with this guys instruction. Mind you the place was crowded at the time and as it turns out the guy is the owner of the store. My daughter is now begging to get a RTF plane and I think it will be great to have something to do together. I was really impressed that this guy took the time to help a 12 year old kid develope an interest.

its getting hard for me to go to a LHS even if they treat you well only because around here they just dont stock what you need. i've given them lists of parts that i use regularly & they stock very off the wall stuff instead. (t-rex 450 specifically) now i blow anywhere between 75+ every time i go to this one shop and they just dont get it. heck if they stocked more t-rex parts i'd blow more.

i know you need to have a realm of things but if you have between 2-5 guys that request you carry something- i think that justifies carrying it. if you rotate your inventory a god amount then you carry more of that line. -just my opinion but what do i know?

only you have the power to make no difference!

lhs

Yeah that relly stinks hobby shops should not be this bad. That is why I tend to stay to the internet for my stuff unless it is fuel. some time i am more up on the new stuff than they are. One time i called my lhs to ask a price on a os 37 and they told me os dose not make a 37 but i found a shop on the internt that had them earlyer that day i politely thanked them and bought it on line instead. One thing i hate are some of the people that are to set in there ways and the only way to learn planks is to fly the old 40 size trianer well what about a park flyer grandpa get the times hey parkflyers are fun and less $$$ so its less of a loss if you do not like it or less repairs if you crash.

Just one note good for you bbeverlie we need more people like you helping orthers and anyway is that not what this hobby about
