The way I understand it is that you should at least use the minimum rated ESC that will support the current draw of your set up. I don't know how much current mine is drawing, but in Harold's website they tested EX full throtle full colective of +11 climb at max 40 amphs. All ESC specs I read about so far is capable of burst rate sometimes more than double the continuous rating.

I don't know about your jazz 40 with regards to 6s. Your manual should say something about it. You could also browse the manufacturer website to find out, even give them a call....

jazz 40 will work fine and 6S should also not be a problem assuming its the 40-6-18 we are talking about. I ran this setup myself for a year on 6S.

The only reason to use the smallest possible ESC is to reduce weight. Bigger will work fine.

Yup , Im running an HV85 amp CastleCreations , 4.2 oz. (119g), and this thing is huge!! I usualy run the HV45amp CC , but it got crashed and I sent it in for repairs .
I have found that the CastleCreations HV45 amp Pheonix ESC is about the best for the EP-8..

The jazz controllers are way better than CC.. pretty much common knowledge. Alot more expensive tho is the downside...however since he already has one he should use it.
