I am converting a Raptor 50,I have the Z50A-600 motor 10T and planning on getting a CC HV85 which they reccomend 10s 3700-4200 mah.Does anyone know if it is doable with a 9s for mediocre flying as I have a 9 cell charger,or will it tax the battery too much, is a 9s available anywhere ? Thanks

This will work fine! 1 cell wont make that much difference in terms of performance. Im running 9S1P in my 50 sized electrics and it works fine. Im not sure if you can buy 9 cell packs... I wire 3 x 3S 4100 mah packs in series for this. this lets me use the individual packs in my acromaster as well when i feel like flying it. You could also buy 1 6S1P pack and wire that together with another 3S pack but make sure they are the same capacity (mah).

Thanks for the input. What about charging ? Since I have a 9 cell charger can I charge the 2 packs together with a series y or y connetor module safely?

You can charge multiple packs:
- if in series, then you have to be sure they are in the exact state of charge. Ideally, use a balancing device that spans the 9 cells, you will probably need to frig a harness for this. You could charge a 6s and 3s pack in series this way.
- if in parallel, much less of a problem as long as all packs are the same number in series eg 3s,4s etc. For 9s your only option would be to have 3x3s packs in parallel and stuff them full of current eg 3x3s4000 packs would take 12 amps at 1C charge.

Neither option is as easy as charging a single pack though. Personally I would get a charger that can do 10s eg Schulze 6-330d, and buy a 10s pack. The charge is relatively little compared to the price of 10s LiPo packs.

Thanks
Yeah I think I might have to spring for a 10 cell charger and 10 s battery I know Ill be alot better of in the long run I was just looking for a less painful way out, you should see the things that happen to my wifes face when she see,s the reciepts of heli stuff its pretty scary. Anyway a few nights in the dog house will balance out the extra frustration and charge time I guess.
