Hey,
So i'm planning on throwing an OS70 into an old R50 and extend the boom, bigger clutch etc etc...
Keeping the same main gear though.
So i was wondering, with a fulll metal head of course, whats the chances i could get the OS70 to swing 710's?
I'm not to concerned about hard 3D as thats what my main 50's for, but i'v also spent mucho's time flying JP550's on my 50 and also learnt on an R30 so am hoping my collective control will be fairly good by now

So what'jew guys think, 680's or should i shoot for the 710's
Its only 3cm longer and the heli will be substancially lighter than a 60/90 airframe heh.

Best regards.

I think you should put a .90 in it and swing shorter blades like 680's.

Do a search here on the big Block conversions...

You may change you're mind....overall it's kind of a waste of time...the 70 adds a ton of weight and the heli really doesn't handle the power all that well....I have known a few people that have done the conversion and have had all the headaches...

The boom you are looking for is a vigor boom...that will allow you to run 710's...

you'll also need the special head set up though...the main grips are longer than the stock ones...can't remember why now but I know it was necessary...

contact a user here by the name of "UNKLPLUNK"

I was going to do the OS70 conversion in my raptor and ended up selling it to him ...talk to him about it...

good luck though

Hey.
Well i'm not using the conversion kit... they no longer seem to exist...
I'm throwing it together with bits and bobs..
R60 clutch, vigor boom, JR shaft, full metal head etc...

What kind of headachs have your chaps come accross?

Issues...

Lots of tail issues and CG issues...I think the metal head designed to work with the big block conversion is worht looking into...the blade grips were longer for a reason...can't remember why but it seemed like it made sense at the time...

also, the added weight detracted from the performance...Just do a search of "big Block conversion" and you'll see it's been discussed here hundreds of time...

I think the blade grips might be longer because some of your 710 blades out there have a longer length between the bolt hole and the end of the blade....on the grip side. I had a pair of SAB 710's that almost were too long to put in my grips on my gasser. They just barely missed the bolt going into the spindle. Just my observation, the real reason may be different.

Hmmm,
Very interesting thoughts there!
I'v read more *big block* posts than i can remember heh.
I'v not come accross the longer blade grip reasoning yet, but shuttles theory seems very possible.

I still think i'll go ahead and make and attempt, back to looking into the whole thing a little more this evening i thinks

Best regards
