I saw somewhere that someone was not sure on the size of the threads/screw to mount the CN12-RXC Motor. I searched and could not find the thread so I started this one.
Per Chen at GWS they are: 1.6 X 2 MM
The screw is the same as what applied on IPS-DX2BB series and the motors EDP-50 of Cargotrans Quad.
It is M1.6x2mm.

Please confirm this for me, a CN12-RXC is the the motor used in the EDF40H. It runs on 11.1v. Is that correct. It is a bit confusing with all the partnumbers. GWS says internally it is called the EDP50H-4.

I have an EDP50H-2 motor here and I do not know its specs.

If you are using it for the tail motor on a cp then it just press-fits in, the screws holes dont match up anyways.

If you press fit the motor, it will be skewed. Some people dremel the housing out for a better fit.

Gino ?

Hey, Gino. I understand that per posts on this site and the reference data on the GWS site that the EDF40H comes with the correct motor(CN12-RXC). However I have seen posts of folks that thought that they had the right motor and smoked them. I copy pasted your comment and sent it off to Chen at GWS support. I will let you know what I find out.

No it wont be skewed, I have been flying with it for quite some time now, look at the pic in the thread about whether or not they like the DX6, theres a pic of me flying with that exact motor in the stock mount, it press fits in and if you press it in all the way the motors can will set flat against the mount so it would for sure be 90 degrees to the boom.

Gino ?

Here is what Chen at GWS has to say.
Actually, my colleague in GWS USA would need to reply to your question as you live in USA.

Please be inoformed that CN12-RXC has been used on the following GWS products,
EDP-50XC, IPS-DX2BB series, IPSD-RXC series, LPS-RXC series, EDF-50H, EDF-50AH, EDF-50BH and EDF40H
http://www.gwsus.com/english/produc...ystem/edp50.htm

http://www.gwsus.com/english/produc...system/ipsd.htm

http://www.gwsus.com/english/produc...ystem/edf50.htm
http://www.gwsus.com/english/produc...ystem/edf40.htm

Please be reminded that using shorter propeller is required when applying 11.1V on this CN12-RXC motor.
You could take enough reference from reading the linked performance data of direct drive EDP40H and EDP50H.

Hope these would be helpful.

Regards,
Chen

Unfortunately the motors I have/had do not have specs on the site.

These are:

EDP50 (grey endbell)
EDP50H (grey endbell)
EDP50H-2 (grey endbell)

The one I have now which says EDP50 but was told it was same as CN12-RXC has balck endbell and air slots on can.

Can somebody shed light?

Matt you are right, the motor fits right in. I just elongated the motor bushing hole so it fits flush. Then I just used one screw to hold it in place. Seems very snug. I am thinking drilloing new screw holes 90 degrees of the stock holes in the future.

I reversed motor wire connection and made the prop face the right way in this orientation. Works great.

Prop size

I take from the information that Chen @ GWS sent the higher voltages that are allowed for this motor is due to the small ducted fan blade(see his note)((less likely to overheat or fatigue the motor)). It "seems" that with the 3020 prop for this motor it may push it back to 7.4 volts as recommended by the site. Time will tell. I know how to limit the voltage to the motor via resistors and diode setups. It would make sense that with the 3020 orange or black props that it would limit motor life if this is the case. I just can't discount the success stories I have read on this site that are using those blades without problems. I am sure the amount of gyro gain folks are using may have something to do with longevity.

The promised motor.

I should get mine by the end of the week. I already started a test on the stock motor with the resistor & diode. The problem with this test is motor had about 40-50 mins when I started so it is not truly a good test. It performs as well as the stock motor did without voltage alteration. I will put it aside and start new with the GWS motor with the addition of the resistor and diode(9.1 +or-.05 volt delivered to motor with the 11.1 lipo) configuration.

Dear God, please let it set down just as it took off. Amen.
