Its that time again!! Those of you who entered last year will have a packet sooner or later, with an entry form for this years Nats. If you are even thinking of entering, now is the time to get your entry in and start polishing the model.

You should also note that there have been a few minor changes to the rules. In precis, the hover maneuvers and climbout get 5 points each, the translational landing 10 points. The freestyle is out of 50 with 20 points awarded for "artistic merit" ie, make your freestyle flow.

The full rules are here

http://www.modelaircraft.org/events...0Helicopter.pdf Use search to find scale.

Once again, I am looking for qualified judges and will be happy to cover their expenses. IRCHA also pays a stipend for sitting around for 2 days watching other folks have fun and try not to crash their helis.

The pilots meeting will be on Monday 9th July at 6pm, static on Tuesday at 8am and one round of flying to follow. The other rounds will be on Wednesday morning followed by prize giving at midday.

If you have a scale model, enter it anyway, even if you dont think you have a chance of winning a trophy. Its good fun and the more you enter the less intimidated you will be when you finally turn up with your scale masterpiece which will carry home the winners trophy.

I hope to see you there.

Home of Garfield, isn't it?

Visited once on an orchestral tour, 1988, the University (Ball State) had a spectacular auditorium, with moving baffles to adjust acoustic response. And the kids liked wearing t-shirts for the university - Ball U.

scale nats

Hi, to all,
Being into scale heli's i was wondering if there are any DVD's available on the Scale Nats? or any scale heli competitions?
I have the Heli Jambouree DVD's from Muncie which have some scale heli's on it, but a good scale heli dvd would be the way to go.

I am very proud to announce that there are nearly twice as many scale entries as in any other class at the Nats and there are some beautiful models here. If you can get here for tomorrow, it should be an interesting day... especially with the weather forecast being what it is.

If Mark doesn't turn up, I'll post some pix later.

another great day at the nats. what a turnout! i think about 14 entrants al flying nice machines. the first round i thought went well though the winds were just really bad and coming from a bad spot for most, behind us.
the second round however, wasnt as good for some. i called for Darrell and he wasnt happy with his second round. first, his startup had a surprise with a sudden spool-up, and not really knowing why hurt his concentration during the round. while my blackhawk has been flying the best i have ever seen, even in the wind, a harder than normal landing on the mandatory maneuvers' translational landing ended in some serious ground resonance that made it look like it exploded. thankfully it only looked and sounded worse than it really was and is nothing a few new boxes of kozy kitten catfood wont cure. the second round also saw a few cop outs with some choosing not to brave the winds and risk their models and i cannot say that i blame them, the wind was pretty rough. Kudos however goes out to those who made the attempt especially for Sergio sanchez who suffered damage to his beautiful new A-star in the 2nd round. like the blackhawk, he only suffered minor damage and it will fly again. the day got interupted by the mentioned showers but afterwards, the flying continued and got finished up. Peter being the excellent event director as well as host treated us to a pizza dinner with some english beverages and we all sat around for what must have been three hours just chatting and having a great time. for me personally it was quite a treat being in the company of some great pilots and nice guys, especially len Mount. he and the other chaps form the UK just had a blast sitting around telling jokes and laughing it up.
tomorow we finish up the final round and should be heading home. i willpost some pics i got today in a bit.

Yeah, go ahead, rub it in! I was supposed to be at this event (as a spectator/video recorder/helper/whatever) but had to bail at the very last second due to a family emergency. This sounds like probably the best scale heli NATS ever. Thanks for the reports at least.

I'm especially cheering for Darrel and his AH1 Cobra to do well. I put in a fair effort in helping sort out the flybarless setup he's using and it's been doing well from what I understand even though we know it could be tuned much better. Time didn't allow for further adjustments. We also didn't get a chance to do any windy weather testing here in GA, but all's well out there. GO DARREL!!! Sorry Emile, I have my loyalties

Good luck to everyone.

The final results after this mornings round

1st place Len Mount, LM Scout turbine
2nd place Darrell Sprayberry, Unique aircraft Cobra electric
3rd place Michael Rose, Vario 47 G g23
4th place Bob Harris, Unique Aircraft 412 Vigor mechs and Hirobo head!

My ISP is giving me grief at the moment so I cant post any pix, but as soon as I can get them uploaded, I'll post them here. 15 enries and there were a lot of very beautiful helis there this year, the judges were outstanding and yes, its the best Nats ever.....well I think so

absolutely the best ever.
the final rounds of flying took place today with the awards soon to follow. all had a very good time and i know i will be back next year to compete. we had so much fun, the only pressure felt was from the high winds we had to deal with but as the troopers we were, it didnt stop the good time. i for one was very glad i attended and a big thanks goes out to the ones who helped me make the trip possible, they know who they are. here are some pics from today, enjoy.
Len's scout pervforming its hovering maneuvers

our own "Sharker" ans his son Hunter captures the fun on camera

Wayne Mason calls for kerry Muncie

Bob Harris and his fourth place win

Mike Rose and his 3rd place win

Darrell Sprayberry gets 2nd place

the 2007 national champion, Len Mount

the winners

the winners congratulate each other, such gentlemen these scale guys

Mike Rose and his very supportive crew

When it was all over, i asked Peter how he felt about how this years nats went, here is the response i got.

Peter's efforts to make the nats grow and be more enjoyable has been very rewarding for the contestants and scale at the nats. great work Peter.
