It seems you are safer buying the EDF40H fan as a unit. This way you know you are getting the CN12-RXC motor. Many merchants interchange the EDP50 with the Cn12-RXC motors.

To compound the problem or mixup, according to Mr. Chen of GWS, The EDP-50XC (motor and 3020 prop) is rated at 7.2v. But literature says, it uses the CN12-RXC motor. So does the EDF40H ducted fan.

I ordered a CN12-RXC from aero-fever.com. I was sent a motor that says EDP50 in the packaging. People there claim I was sent the correct motor and that is lasts a "long long time." I'll have to report back, hopefully after a long long time.

One thing is clear. People who use the motors from the EDF40H reported good motor life. And this is the desired DD motor whatever that motor's true designation is.

What is DD?

Mattenzi
1) DD = direct drive tail. That means as opposed to a motor with a gear attached spinning the gear that the tail rotor is attached to(stock Blade CP or CP Pro set up). DD Direct drive means that you have a prop directly attached or attached by an adapter directly to the motor ouput shaft.

2) Yes, you want the ducted fan unit to take the motor out of. Reason for this: the reports of this unit being removed from the ducted fan unit and being installed in the DD setup makes very happy end users. The CN12-RXC motor is what is supposed to be in the EDF40H(ducted fan) tail and available in a package with two props(no ducted fan). So does this mean that they had a good run of very good performing motors that they installed in the ducted fan units or did they have a bad run of motors that they sold in the motor with two prop units(Who knows). This is why you most people tread on this subject very lightly.

3) I'm not sure that folks are supposed to do that here. I think that T_w_r_H___b_e_s might have them. People only mention when a distributor is out.

4) There are several places on the web/and LH stores that sell the stock motor and several places that sell lower priced stock motor(two for one in places)((what does that tell you)) replacements. The thing is that; if the stock motor works for you and your skills now that is great. I am shocked that how fast between hovering and doing all the training(that seems so boring at times) that I needed the tail to keep up. Last week it was fine for me, but now I am ahead of the helicopter(and tail) and it is falling behind. I am flying within what the heli is capable of. Not mine. I think that this is why these discussions go on so long. Doing more with what you have.

Dear God, please let it set down just as it took off. Amen.

One more thing.

Cost wise the EDF40H comes with motor, heatsink installed, and screws but, the prop(3020 orange in color or the 3020 black with an adapter to the output shaft) and you can get either the 6 orange props or 1 black with adapter for $4 bucks. Fits my "on the cheap" mission. By the way if you look at the GWS site motors there are only a few which help us with our confussion. CN12-RXC ?

Dear God, please let it set down just as it took off. Amen.

Oh, you want the EDF40H, not the EDF40. The EDF40 has a 7.2v motor.

A lot of Hong Kong shops carry the motors. Aero-fever.com and heli-fever.com have them. But insist that you get the CN12-RXC. I have yet to get back to you on how my aero-fever motor works out. Hopefully in a long long time.
