"Rattling cages" is NOT referring to a changing update policy. It stricktly refers to technology because innovation is what we are known for. This technology is "rattling cages". Changing my unique update policy could be done just like that. There is nothing innovative I can think of.

Funny discussion here. Is it really that hard to wait these few days? It's also funny to see the growing focus of the discussion. Obviously, nobody is interested in the innovation quality but the main interest seems to be the quality "free".

To end that discussion here: The Reflex update was never "free". I was providing it free of charge but I also expressed my hope that people will contribute something according to their evaluation and abilities. Thanks Knud for pointing to this fact a few times. For those who have forgotten: Reflex was the company establishing this fact and this still very unique company policy in the market at a time all the other sims were nicely selling add-on's.

To calm down the people beeing afraid: NO, Reflex won't change this system. Software upgrades will still be available basing on my personal believes that good work will be expressed in voluntary payment.

Reflex represents 15 years of good and highly innovative work and we still have a few visions we would like to bring to the market. One of it will be presented on Feb 1st. Some will like it, some won't.

Great! Now can't wait to see the technology innovation.

Now hopefully for me, that will give me the motivation I need to practice and progress forward.

Hi Nigel,
I wasn't jumping all over you, just the dog and pony show from Reflex. I know you are just a hobbyist like me, I just used your words to make my point.

And Reflex,
I just bought your product several months ago and paid $189, no small change, my concern for the cost of the update is very valid as a comsumer. There was no "donation" policy to purchase the Reflex sim, so be a little more understanding about our concern for cost. Personally, all the posturing by Reflex smacks of no update by Feb 1st, just an announcement of intent. We'll see if that is the case in a few days, but don't be upset that excited fans want to know what's going to happen, its that same enthusiam that gets us to spend our hard earned money on your product.

Reflex can you confirm if the software will become vista compatiable? If so is there anyway to download an entire new installer as currently i need to install from thje disc then apply all the updates. Can i get the lates version from anywhere so i only need to do one installation and no updates?

Reflex IS Vista compatible. It's just the 3rd party installer which happens to ignore the latest vista development from beta to final commercial. The current installer on the 5.03 CD seems to be working with Vista and the next online installer will work with Vista as well. There had been some confusion on the 3rd party software side as Vista is handling user right differently and made a few last minute changes.

Just install it on an XP machine and copy it using a network or a mem stick. You can open the Cab files on CD and copy manually, that will work as well. Just don't forget to set the user rights to rw for the Reflex directory.

I think gt900uk is fully aware of how to get XTR running on Vista.

He was just asking whether there is anyway of getting a new installer or a new release of the CD so that it will install off the CD without manual file manipulation.

I think you have answered - no there isn't.

So in summary,

(a) Reflex can be made to run on Vista
(b) The Reflex installation CD is not Vista compatible

Cheers,

Nigel

Nope. As I said earlier, "The current installer on the 5.03 CD seems to be working with Vista" - that is the latest CD in the full versions since November and also available as update. I just got 5 user comments in my support today confirming this as the german vista commercial seems to be out sincelast monday.

gt may have an earlier CD which still carries the un-vista-installer.

Reflex Step 2?

I have been in contact with Reflex about the English Update for the RSK. I have email'd them on 2 occasions and got reply's both times about the English versions of the RSK. The first time the English RSK was promised for the end of the year. My last response came 1/27/2007 and I am told the English RSK release may be in April. The big delay for the English RSK is because the time is being invested in STEP 2. Learning German well enough to program the RSK has been a chore, it was easier to take about 100 photo's of the field where I fly and make a Panorama of 8160x3060.
I still look at the Flying-Model-Simulator dollar for dollar as being in most cases better than ANY of the Simulators that cost more than a download and a blank CD times their cost. FMS along with all the other simulators aid in learning coordination and directional control without the cost of a crash, everything else the simulators do are bells and whistles. I purchased Reflex after running the DEMO which worked on my machine fine and watched the demo flights. I like the Hirobo line of helicopters and the Shuttles were available for it. I still would like a Shuttle RG for Reflex and I may make a Reflex model of the one I have one day. I still prefer the small interface over the bulky ones used by other simulators. The thing I am getting around to is that the one thing that has justified the cost of Reflex is that from the day I got it, all the models, scenery's, RSK and the upgrades have been free. Seems that everything for Real Flight G WHAT EVER COST for a version that worked like it was supposed to. I was AMAZED that the upgrade for G3 to G3.5 is FREE (still can't believe it). The cost of EVERY MODEL, SCENE, whatever, was the first and MAIN reason for not buying Real Flight G(whatever)to start with, does Real flight even HAVE a Model constructor, the start from scratch kind.
Anyway, I hope Stage 2 is worth the wait, I could have used a English RSK and without a doubt I hope the price is right for the people who have paid for Reflex in the past.
I am also sending a 12% picture of the Panorama I made of the field I fly at in Huntington, WV, USA. There are more pictures at http://rcflyerscu.hobby-site.org/FieldPics/index.html if you want to see them. The field is about 5 minutes from where I live and is about 2000 feet across and is mostly a flat circle and is groomed by the park department. The web page shows the layout and location. We just fly there and have a good time. If anyone is in the area and wants to fly there, stop by, there is NO charge to fly there. If I can get the RSK programmed for the field well enough, I will place it for download and call it "4H_CampField_BVilleWV" on the web page listed here.

Reflex, RSK and RMK are in a process of serious changes due to Step 2. The RSK/RMK versions comming with 5.04 are pretty well organised and that's the stage were we start a serious translation. RSK will be included on the new 5.04 final cd. I will ask Mark Ryder in Nurmeberg if we can organise a kind of teamwork translation. This way you english natives don't have to suffer from my "denglish".

Translations

If you were to make a .ini file that had all the header labels that loaded in at program start. We non German users could build our own translation in what ever language. Might use say Punkte=Punkte and we could change it to Punkte=Scores or Points. The ones I use often I can remember, there are a lot of options to some of the setups and I don't remember the translation words for every one, even with a translator jump table. I managed to translate the help file but the program interface is hard to use in a language I don't use and don't practice, with so many options. With the .ini file, it would be easy to have anyone build a language translation from the main .ini file and post it in a forum.
Sorry, been strugglin with RSK on and off for a while. I picked up how to use Lightwave for the Video Toaster on the Amiga quicker, but the interface WAS in english.

DDwaneR - I have been in contact with Reflex about the English Update for the RSK
Why do you need it in english ?
Don´t you know: "Real men do not use the manual"

PS:
Looking forward to the STEP 2....
It is hard to imagen what the changens could be.
Just imagen that right know it is often discussed if it is the G3, Phoniex, reflex etc. that is the best sim - and knoe the reflex is saying the the STEP2 will changen the sim world :-)

Maybe one of the thing, has something to do with the way we calibrated the transmitter (in the INI file) as all registreted Reflex users have got an emanil from reflex, to send there INI file, becuase they would make some test regarding "calibration transmitter"

I´m really loooking forward to se what it is - only two more day and we all will know.

Read the manual

I read the manual ...................... eventually...to see if I missed anything!
Ohhhh, I have NO problem imagining what the updates might be. A lot of what I might imagine WON'T be there probably.

To all helifans here. All I can say is,that I'am a happy pilot because reflex helped me alot in my flyingskills.

I'am flying now about 2 years(yes also 3D)and never had a crash.
There's one thing that you not have on a sim,and that is STRESS.
Reflex helped me alot to left the stress at home and do your're thing. Most of the crashes comes with stress.NOT THAT STUPIED ONES..

I wan't to thank all persons that developed reflex XTR.Hopefully that new update KICKS SOME ASS.

Reflex you are correct i have the older CD with the non vista installer! Nigel was also right in that i wanted to know if i can get an installer or latest image of the vista friendly CD. It is a serious pain in the neck having to manually copy the files from a XP machine. Any plans for this? What about a downloadable version on the website? After all it cant be used without the dongle. By the way i have to say i am very happy with reflex i have not tried phoenix but i see no need reflex does all that i need. It would be nice to have some more features but i await feb 1st to see what it brings.
