It works great with the stock plastic grips. Maintenance is also much easier with plastic grips. Those metal grips are a real pain in the a** if you want to remove and lube the thrust bearing.

My favorite setup is a Kasama head with QUK blade metal grips – that way you have the best of both worlds and it is very easy to take apart. QUK grips also come with higher quality bearings.

Works fine for me.

I just like the idea of having something breakable between the blades and the head even though it's kind of a shame that those beautiful metal grips are languishing in my parts box.

Its a little messy but you can grease all the bearings in the metal grips as an assembly with the Greaser if you plug the threaded holes in the side.

Sounds like you may still have an original set of blade grips if removing the bearing to get to the thrust bearings is the problem.
If you contact Johan at z-rc he will sort out replacement grips for you which are now being shipped with a better tolerence in the blade grip to enable easier fitment/removal of the radial bearings.

Alternatively you could either follow altimat's advice to grease the complete assembly OR if you can remove the bearings then you can polish the bearing seats as advised by a post on here which also works very well.

I did fly the head with standard grips for a short while and the head performed brilliantly, still far superior to the standard head..

But saying that, I couldn't just leave the Kasama grips in my spares box.. Have to admire your strength of will here.. I just had to get them onto the heli myself.

Maybe I _will_ send them back for the new design.

They shore are purdy.

Is there a risk of the stock plastic grips failing at high headspeed? Or is it mainly the headblock?

The world is yours!

Headblock, the feathering shaft is what applys most of the pressure, which thus is applied to the head block,
