I have a OS Hyper 50 and was running a OS #8.

After it came back from warranty repair, I cannot get it to run on a OS #8 they only last for about 2 flights. Which is the best plug to run with a reasonable cost?

OS 8 or enya 3. if the plug is buring out fast then you are most likely too lean.

Edit: Moved to correct area now. Thanks.

I use both OS #8 and Enya 3#'s in my hyper, both work well. You might need to fatten(richen) it up a bit and start from there, sounds like your running lean.

Enya no. 3. I have problems with the OS 8 plugs. The Enyas are slightly more expensive, but worth it.

You should check or replace the fuel and clunk lines, reset the mixture and needle to stock settings then replace the plug.

You say you just got it back from being repaired. What happened that it needed a trip back to Hobby Services?

If you sent it in because the rear bearing had died, or if other bits of metal went through the motor, you need to remove the muffler and wash it out thoroughly to remove any left-over bits of metal that are still inside the muffler. If present in the muffler after a catastrophic engine failure, those residual bits of metal can be sucked back into the engine and find their way up to the glow plug, causing what appears to be a series of "bad" plugs.

I had a nasty crash last year in which the motor continued to run for quite a while until I got to the wreck to kill the motor. By then, the entire clutch bell was gone, and much of the lining and bell went through the carb into the rest of the motor. OS replaced the engine as its internals had been pretty much toasted. When I installed the new motor in the repaired helil, I went through four plugs in a row, thinking I had gotten a bad batch of plugs. My friend, who knew the history of the crash, asked if I'd cleaned out the muffler. D'oh, I hadn't even thought about that. That evening, I cleaned it out, and got quite a bit of aluminum dust and filings out of the muffler. When I reinstalled the clean muffler, my "bad" plug troubles went away.

BTW -- I've been using OS #8s for several years. They work fine. If you start going through a bunch in a short period of time, it's time to start thinking about a new rear bearing for your OS 50.
