Hey guys,

I just dropped my pinion to an 11 from a 13 so I could fly a little longer.
I'm pretty sure I have the gear mesh right, but would like to double check.

I can hold the pinion firmly, and wiggle the main gear ever so slightly...Is this too loose? It moves not even half a millimeter.
I took the entire headblock (this includes the paddles) off and spooled it up to less than 1/8 throttle just to make sure it made good contact, which it did (it sounded right at least).

I'm not going to strip the main gear under load right? I fly very very mildly.
Can someone reply and reasure me I did it right?
Thanks

Tommy

Sounds like you have it about right. My question is, is your main gear round? If not you need to rotate the gear to the tightest spot, and adjust it like you did. Dont worry if its tight on the high spot of the gear, it will wear in, in a couple flights.

Timing is everything

Actually

It's the best main gear I've ever had, very round.
It's smooth all around.

Thanks wasp.

Well if it's round, then you won't have any problems at all, your welcome.

That sounds right. You can also insert a piece of paper between pinion and gear, push them together, tighten the motor mounts, and remove the paper. You want a little rocking motion, but it is hard to describe. 1/2 mm sounds about right, give or take 1/2 mm

i use a piece of printer paper that between the pinion and main gear to set the mesh. just feed a piece inbetween by turning the main gear. once in between, push the pinion and main gear together and tighten the mounting screws. just make sure your setting the mesh at the high point on the main gear. that should do ya.
