I used the gws direct drive tail system. Seems to give it solid tail control and the motor last longer....

You have got the correct part number and link to heli-hobby. I used this system and it worked very well. You will have to reverse your positive and negative wires on the motor, since the blade will be on the opposite side of the heli. I always used the high authority tail motor from gws. It can also be purchased from heli-hobby.

http://helihobby.com/html/motors.html

the part number is HH327 I think it is the piccolo high authority tail motor.

I have used the Gws DD tail for over a year now. If you scroll down a little further on that page you will se a ducted fan unit EDF 40 I buy the high power unit (EDF 40H) which will run on 12V. I pull the motor out of the DF unit and remove that prop then put the motor on the GWS DD mount. This is the motor that will handle the power from 11.1 lipos without over heating...

I am not for sure. I think the lower priced motors are just lower quality. I always ordered the $10.49 one and it usually came with 2 extra tail blades. They always worked fine. I have at one time or another ordered all three but can't really remember the difference. I always used a heat sink and none of them ever really got warm but it did make the bird alittle tail heavy...

Slider, I think I'll setup an edf40h dd tail soon. How many hours do you get on it on 11.1v?

This motor has been on the cp since last winter. I flew it everyday during the winter indoors but when the weather got nice it would get 1-2 flights a week. MY best guess is about 50-60 flights total..

So basically al I need is to order this little package from Tower in order to make a DD setup ?:

http://www2.towerhobbies.com/cgi-bi...?&I=LXHHM6&P=ML

The edf unit everyone seems to be ripping the motor from is this one, correct? :

http://www2.towerhobbies.com/cgi-bi...p?&I=LXHHP0&P=7

And according to tower this fan has the CN12-RXC motor in it, which is whats also described in the motor in the first link

Will I need anything else? Like a motor mount ?

This is what you need to attach the prop to the motor. You will also need to dremmel the stock mount slightly to fit the round GWS motor. I am also using the 12-RXC/3020 prop for over a month and love it.

It might be press fit, I never even tried. I just bought the motor/prop combo you linked and the direct drive adapter I linked above at the same time. I just always assumed it needed the adapter.

Nice, Ill get the adapter to then. I dont let press fit things too much. Do you have to alter the tail of the CP at all to take the GWS motor?

If you are lucky you can pull off the stock tail housing. If not, a little dremelling is needed to slot the housing to be able to break it off.

After installing the dd tail, you need to move the battery forward to balance it. If you are using light lipos you are in for some problems. They have to be way out there in front to balance correctly.

1320mah lipos balance lightly when placed forward. But this is now the most nimble setup.
