I've been using the Medusa with an 11T pinion since I got it a few months ago and have been happy with it. I had been meaning to get the 12T pinion but was not able to get one until recently because it was out of stock in most places.

Needless to say, I put it on and flew it several times yesterday and all I can say is that my T-Rex is a whole new beast. It has a lot more power. It held headspeed a lot better than the 11T and was just overall more fun to fly. There was power to spare, like my bigger helis. Best 5 bucks I ever spent!

What sort of head speed are you getting? Mine is 2900 give or take and I would like to know if I am in the ball park. I have a quark esc and am not 100% sure if I am getting the most out of my motor. Also what type of batteries are you using. I have lost two packs recently and I am looking for replacements. Right now it is looking like the 2070 extremes.

Yea After a whole lot of Searching it seams the 12t would be perfect, so that is the Only pinion that's been on my Medusa so far!
Mine was Tacked out at:
2820/ 12t / 85% Th(Jazz) / TP2100 15C / V-blades

and one more thing "DON'T BE AFRAID!"

What about temperature differences between the 11t and 12t ?

With an 11t right now my motor temps are 135F after 6min flights with no heat sink and about 50F ambient temp.

Will the 12t require a heat sink ?

I have one on mine. I just used the one from my align motor. I do not know if it needs it but it cannot hurt.

The Medusa motor benefits from a heat sink more so than the Align motors because it's an in-runner. The windings are directly against the outer can, so the transfer of heat is more efficient.

I also started by using the Align heat sink on my Medusa when I installed it. My motor temps with a 2800 headspeed on hot days was in the 155F realm. I decided to experiment by adding a second Align heat sink. It dropped the motor temp 28F. I was hoping for 5-10 degrees. There are a couple of pics in my gallery of the simple modification I made to the sinks to allow both to be installed together.

Thanks guys for all the input! I haven't been able to run a heat sink because I'm using an STK frame and it's currently a bit tight. I do have an Align heat sink that I can put on it and will do so.

As for my HS, I don't have my tach just yet (but it's in the mail).

hi

I just recently flew my SE with 12t pinion.. WOW is all I can say.. I have 2100 mah 15C packs.. (I havent tached the headspeed) my setting is +10 -10 on pitch, throttle curve 100 100 100 100 100.... Im getting 6 minutes of hard 3D... and putting in 1600 back into the pack..

All I can say is WOW WOW WOW WOW.. This motor is soo efficient that my CC35 ESC is 90 degrees, Medusa 3400 is 115 degrees and my battery pack is 105 degrees.. I am WELL PLEASED with this motor.. I bet, if I went to the 25C TPX packs, the Medusa would be more efficient?? Anyhow.. WOW... Medusa ROCKS!!!

Im using the full length Medusa Heatsink... It seems to be working soo well but is BULKY!! I guess, in this case.. the bulkier the heatsink is, the better

just my .02 cents

Crash-Prone and overcoming it!!!

I'm actually using two Align heat sinks with an STK frame. You install them from the sides so that the long fins stick slightly outside of the frame. You have to grind a little off of the fins that protrude towards the front, but other than that, they work great!

Thanks Kamikazi. I did try one this past week and I'll try grinding off some of the problematic fins. My problem is that with my Quark and Sky & Tech BEC, I have the switches to turn the Motor/Electronics off, mounted near the motor and they kind of get in the way of the heat sinks. I'll have another look at it though!
