I also thought that they were metal but they are plastic and $18.00 each. That is a major rip off.

Hi Droid, it's the colour fooled you, seems strange to me they failed and so many failed on the MA open tail box yet the Raptor gears don't fail as far as I know, and are cheap as well

gears

yes plastic or should i say machined delron or something Way better than just plastic. I would rather have this type here anyway. I can remember back in the day when Min.Air had metal back there. You where for ever greesing them. These you never have to and they wear very well. As far as them giving out in flight i have a hard time seeing that. Unless something else gave out or came loose to have them strip in the air. Gyro settings? Or better yet who knows they might have stripped when hetting the ground. I also have a Synergy and it has grown up over the past 5 gallons. I just got in from flying. I lost the tail also but that was due to the torque tube ends not being set in tight enough. Speaking with Todd I got things all squared away.
Good luck and happy flying!

I am not aware of hitting tail at any time, and have found no debris in tail box.I was flying downfield pirrouetting clockwise, and it suddenly started whipping counterclockwise.I hit throttle hold and had a hard landing.

How did the mesh feel? Did you pin the torque tube as this can cause problems.

If you put the pin in the wrong spot on the rear of the TT it can push the tail gear box input shaft in and make the mesh on the tail gears way to tight. My rear TT coupler had problems with the thred so I decided to pin it. I did it while building and when finished the gear mesh was notchy, I pulled the gear box off and it was fine then realised what was happening so I got a new coupler and left the pin out and now I have a fantasic mesh.
I also re glued the bearings on the TT a little straighter as well and not it runs smoooother then anything else I have ever had.

Hi Guys,

I would advise checking the mest on the gears every few gallons, I added a shim to mine after about 15 gallons.

Is this shim a Synergy part? Or do you have to buy it from someone else?

Thanks,

Jeff

You should find several shims of different thickness in the spares bag.
