It's more of a new heli than a "conversion".

I just built one and it's almost a whole new heli you only use the main rotor blades, servos and servo links from the blade cp. Everything else is new you will also need a computer radio and RX too....
I like mine alot...

It flys very nice and with the belt drive tail and a gy240 gyro, it's as stable as a trex in a hover. I haven't pushed it in flight yet but just sport flying and figure8's it is very easy to fly. But it doesn't like the wind just like the blade. I'll get some pics tomorrow and post here for you.

JJGONZO where did you get that landing gear? It looks like a modded trex...

It is from the Trex. The original one is too narrow.

Yeap. I think it is. I had to raise up the back end of the heli with a couple of large spacers so that the tail rotor wouild not hit he ground. I also cut a large tail guard out of cf.

Slider knows i'm watching peoples opinions on these type heli's vs. the TREX's. I have a stock BCCP and i'm getting tired of dealing with the lack of power and tail hold. Keep the opinions and pics coming!

Yes I made a tail guard from 1/8" lite plywood because I have the longer blades on the tail and they will hit if you use any back cyclic while landing... I guess I'll work on the landing gear to raise it up a bit and everything should be good... I really like the way this little bird handles it's quick in flite like the blade but will hover very stable like a trex. It seems to be the best of both worlds small and stable... Once I get it all debugged and adjusted to my liking I think I'm going to put a jet ranger body on it and see how it lkes the weight... I'll see if I can get some pics up today of it when I get done with the landing gear...
Jediwannabe I still fly my blade cp alot and it's great flying The GWS DD tail makes a big difference in the way the tail holds and a computer radio eliminates the lack of power because you can adjust your headspeed with the throttle curves.....

Heres another one for viewing http://users.adelphia.net/~mstatig/Dscf0676.jpg
I love mine, I just ordered a new tail case metal one from micro heli cause i broke the plastic on by tightening it to hard. I kept the stock landing skids on mine as you can see keeps the height up, I guess if i wanted to i could heat em up and spread them apart to make it wider.

Jediwanabe,

You cannot go wrong with either a Trex or a hdx300. Both birds fly beautifully, plus compact, stable, responsive, and a blast to build. Take your pic trex or baby Trex.

I tried to fly mine today and the head keeps slipping on the shaft. I retightened the set screws but it still is slipping I tried to get the head off the shaft but I think there is a burr on the shaft.... The set screws are about ready to strip so I'm thinking about drilling the shaft and thru bolting the head to shaft, what do you guys think?????

Did you notch the shaft? Thats what i started doing after my first crash and had the same problem your having now, not being able to get the head off just twist and pull you'll get it. Heres what i figured out recently if you have some Spindle shaft screws(the two screws you tighten to hold the blade grips on the spindle shaft) left over trim them down and use them isntead of the tiny grub screwss

Thanks, I'll give it a try in the morning I tried this afternoon but didn't want to damage anything or bend the shaft. I should have ground flat spots on the shaft while building, but I got in a hurry and let it go, and here I am now with a bigger problem to fix....

Thanks JJGONZO,

I'm in heavy research mode on both birds, but I am leaning towards the TREX 450 as my LHS(5 miles away) has all the parts and I know it can handle more wind. I'm glad you guys post your builds, the parts, the settings, the opinions. It really benifits someone who is trying to stay away from a mistake or a bad product. Man, I need the works...(I feel like i'm on a diving board about to jump in with my wallet open LOL). Researching TX's at the moment and I don't have an unlimited budget, but(through my reading here) realize that a good TX is a big part of these heli's.
