Curious, as I bought another one off the classifieds here. My first 430L 3550kv lasted for about 5 months...not sure how much flights. The spindle wore and developed a lot of play to a pint where you could here a clicking sound from the motor. Then came intermittent loss of power incidents. The spindle got thinner at the top of motor where it contacts the bearing. I pulled it out and you can see the tapered wear.
I am running a Himax 2815-3000 good motor but it is heavy. I can overload the motor with 10 degress of pitch...now I am backed off at about 7 degrees of pitch both ways with a 13 tooth pinion on 3S.
Plan to run the 430L with a 13 tooth pinion.

I'm having good luck with my 430L but I don't fly as hard as you 3D guys do. I have 70 flites or more on mine with no signs off wear or getting tired yet..

Tom..... No "D" flying....

I have well over 200 flights on my Aon 2815-3500 with no problems encountered yet. It's not a super lightweight powerhouse, but it does just fine with my scale-style flying.

Well over 200 flights on my stock align 430L motor here. No signs of problems or loss of power yet. Knock on wood!

My 430L started running hot at 120 flights, and I changed it out at 133.
Not sure why, but it's possible the shaft was getting loose on the front bearing which will waste a lot of power. Either that or the windings were shorting. Noticeable power loss was bearly noticeable at the time of replacement.

Edit: I used green loctite on day one to hold the can together, as with my current 430L.

Killed mine after a good 10 flights. IT got hot enough to "unscrew" at the motor can. I Screwed it back together, drilled some small holes and taped them out for threaded grub screws. Now that it wont twist appart, it is still working fine every day..

pictures of the mod
The crash from the motor untwisting in flight cost me a set of blades and some LG.
Won't happen again! you can see the small screws drilled into the motor can and filed flat. This motor is now in my SA, and made those intro to 3D videos with it on 11T pinion.

The bearings died in mine after about 25 flights. It got real noisy and lost power. I replaced it with a Medusa.

The Himax 2815 was a much better motor than the 430L and ran well.

I modified mine in almost the same way just two days ago after I crashed because the motor fell apart. Funny thing was I was flying inverted and the motor chose to come off while inverted. In other words the canister went up and defied gravity. That was Crazy... I thought it would have come off when I was upright at least. Any way I had to land on the head as I could not flip it back over (it hit really hard on the head} in other words hard crash. I could not believe how little the damage was. I don't know how many flights it had I bought it used.

Mine hasn't unscrewed yet but my first gold top had a worn front bearing. Noticed it when I though my gear mesh had gotten off. Nearly 1/2 mm of play in it. Do I need to be lubing teh bearing (or bushing)?

Also I thought I read that Align fixed the unscrewing problem with the silver top version.

My first lasted only a month before zapping itself and causing a crash. Second one is in the machine and running well after about 6mths, probably about 150 flights.

Seems like people either get a really really good motor, or a really really crap one!
