If you are looking at LCD flat panels then the Sonys are hard to beat.
I have no experience with LCD rear projection so I can't say which may be best.
But the LCD flat panels will have a better quality picture than any LCD rear projection sets. The new Sonys have 1080P HD which is the next evolution in HD technology. If you are looking for the best quality HD available make sure to get a set which has 1080P HD

Look at the Sony Bravia XBR3 before you buy anything else.

Sony in my opinion (and many others, do a google search for HTDV/audio/video forums) is not the leader in LCD's.

They are good, but for the $ dollar value, they are extremely overpriced by a long shot.

At our server center, over 80% of our LCD's are Sony's and the other 20% are Sharp and Samsungs.

Only reason why we carry more Sony's is because of the high markup value for resale.

I recently bought a Phillips 32" and a Samsung 40" LCD for the price of one Sony.

Look around, shop around.

Beware of the feed at the stores (bestbuy,etc..) and advice the salesmen give you.

This is an excellent place to start searching for an LCD that suits you:

http://www.avsforum.com/

Here is a small basic guide with regards to sizes, etc..

http://www.lcdtvbuyingguide.com/lcd...derations.shtml

Good luck.

ps. Some of the lower-name brands are actually Sony/Samsung/Dell LCD's panels in disguise at a fraction of the cost.

I know this from dealing directly with Sony,Dell and Daytek in Japan.

Prices will drop come Christmas.

Sharp and Phillips have already begun a small price wars game in the LCD market and you can expect them to drop significantly over the next 2 months. 30-42" LCD's.

... But honey it was only $$$

heres my two cents...subscribe to consumers report...for an extra $15 (give or take) you will have access to "pro" recommendations based on unbiased testing...well worth the investment prior to sinking in the large bills...be it a grand for a TV or 20 times that for a car.

example...I still have a Panasonic receiver that wont die in order to have an excuse to upgrade to the latest and greatest...consumer report has saved me bunch of money by not having to purchase something a second time based on a bad decision or because it did not perform as advertised.

or you can wait for the latest and greatest up and coming "LASER" tv...coming to a store near you.

Nice Grant.

Native 1080 is nice.

I bought an Acer 37" that was 1080p in disguise as a 1080i.

Some great deals to be had come Xmas.

... But honey it was only $$$

Check Newegg daily. I just ordered the Olivia 40 for 899 on Monday with $59 shipping. 500 instant saving that day only. Check the main page every day or two and you find a smokin deal. Find one you like and check the reviews. Only thing I don't like about the one I got is it's only 720p but for the price I couldn't pass.
