hi, i'm restoring an old'ish Hirobo jet ranger.i'm having problems with the head.the flybar appears to be bent and i've no idea how to disasemble it 'WITHOUT BENDING OR BREAKING ANYTHING ELSE'(lol).

Does anybody have any experiance with this particular heli.I would love a copy of the instructions but more importantly someone with experience will be invaluable.

Tim,

Thats an old Hirobo SST. Lovely heli to fly.
I do have instructions here. If you send me an e-mail, I'll get a copy sorted out for you.

Hi Tim;

I'm assuming the following:

- You are simply wanting to remove the flybar
- You have loosened all set screws holding it to the flybar carrier arms
- The flybar itself is not corroded or stuck in the head yoke
- You have removed the paddles

Then I would suggest cutting the flybar inboard of the bend to be able to slide it out of the head and carriers. You should be able to easily do this with a dremel and a cut off wheel or a fine tooth hacksaw. You may then need to file smooth any burrs in order to slide out the old bar through the head.

Cheers;
Eric

Hey Tim

Although it's been a few decades since I have touched one of those heads, it looks like you have a DDF-SST head. Which is a dual dampened flapping head. It was considered scale back in the day, circa '85 to '87, even though it had a flybar mounted on top.

Attatching the yoke to the center hub, is a pin going thru the hub, locked with a set screw, and thru two bearings in the yoke. Then covered by two plastic covers on the yoke. Below the pin and bearings is a rubber damper that goes thru the hub and yoke. Covered with two dished steel covers and secured with a long 3mm bolt and lock nut.

There were two spindles that made it flap and two dampers, one spindle and damper behind each blade grip. Behind the covers on each end and sides of the yoke, are the pins that holds the spindles to the yoke.

I think you have some bad dampers on each spindle that makes it appear that you have a bent spindle. You should be able to disassemble the head with no worry of damaging anything. I have no idea where you can source dampers for that old DDF head. No instructions on that head available that I know of. Good luck.....

Not sure if this is what you are after, I have used this site for older machines that have crossed my path..

They mention a few SST machines there and have some manuals, Hirobo head parts on some machines were interchangeable.

Maybe the info will help ?

Good Luck

Matt
