I got my gy401/9254 today, and got it setup,,,,,,,,,,,,,I think. I have the limit set so the linkage isn't over driven, and about where the tail should be in hover. The thing I am confused about is the rate setting from my 9ch. I used the gyro sense tab to set the rates, But can the ch5 endpoints be used for this also.

The reason I am askingis because using the gyro sense screen 50% is no gain at all, below 50 is normal mode, and above 50 is HH. I think this will work out ok but just thought about using ch5 epa would make it easier to set the gain being that whatever the number is dialed in, that will be my gain. Neg for normal, and pos for hh. I am using this on a r30v2.

I am pretty clear on the fact that I set the piro rate using rudder/ch4 end points, Correct? I want to try and get back in the air tommorrow for a bit. I know I am going to like this gyro very much, The 2 different gyros I have used in the past have always had a drift to them when setting still on the bench. Not this one. I already think the radio is just awsome compared to the hitec radios I have.

Thanks in advance.

Correct on the piro rate ch 4 ATV.

The gyro gain will work fine on either channel, start with about 35 for rate mode and about 85 for HH and then go from there.

The gyro sense menu doesn't set piro rates it sets gain.

Set channel 4 and 5 to 100/100

Set gyro sense menu to ACT
Mode to GY
Rate up =avc 50 (this means heading hold mode w/ 50 percent gain)
Rade dn = nor 50 (this means rate mode 50 percent gain)
Switch = whatever I use switch F

Adjusting the numbers in the gyro sense menu adjust the gain, same as changing the end points on channel 5 but with the gyro menu WYSIWYG

Now, adjust the limit pot so theres no binding in either direction with the servo centered, the arm straight up and the tail pitch slider 4.5mm from the tail case.

Now you can adjust the channel 4 end points to suit the piro rate that you're looking for, and you can go over 100, it will speed up the piro rate but not bind the servo because the servo motion is set by the limit pot.

Leave the rudder ATV's at 100% and set the piro rate with dual rate. If you're always careful and have both sides of the rudder ATV set the same, you can set piro rate with rudder. If you set them differently to match piro rate in both directions, you can cause the gyro to drift because the neutral signal shifts with Futaba radios. Using d/r avoids this issue and also gives you the ability to set different piro rates for different flight conditions.

I am not that good of a flyer yet, I just needed a new gyro as my old one quit, so I bought myself an early christmas present in the form of the 9ch and Gy401/9254.

I tried to get in a few hovers today, but it wasn't very nice outside, rainy, and windy. I do know I need to soften the gain for the gyro. At 85% I have a bit of wag in the tail. I backed it down to 70 and no wag. I have the tail rotor link at 13mm on the servo arm, I am going to move it in to 12mm. I am pretty close on the throttle/pitch curves. Headspeed is a bit high for my liking and skill level, but pretty smooth. Now I have to get a nice day to fine tune it.

I got about a half tank of fuel burnt today, and I can't beleive this gyro, sure beats the pants off my old jr unit. And the 9ch is way better than my old optic six. Now I can concentrate on flying and not messing with a drifting gyro.

Thanks for the pointers.

You've got a great combo there you shouldn't have any problems.
Good luck with your flying.

Just burned off a tank during my lunch break, Now I am just barely into forward flight, but this thing is so smooth now, even with the 3151 servos the radio came with. I think I may have to kick my wife out of the bed now.

I had no idea this gyro worked so good, the other 2 gyros I have used in the past, worked ok but not as good as this one. I had a jr406t on my venture when I had it, and it drifted and let the tail bounce when I would center the rudder stick. When I got my raptor, I cheaped out and used an align micro hh gyro that I had left from a lite machines heli I used to have. It worked good on that heli, but drifted slightly. I put it on the raptor when I got it together, and it worked but I found I spent more time trimming out the drift during flight than learning. I am sure this gyro will serve me very well.
