Is expired loctite okay to use? I have a bottle with an expiration almost a year ago and am wondering if it still works.

I guess the ultimate test would be to use it on the heli and see if the heli falls apart in mid air... but... I'd rather not. lol... anyone ever use old loctite. It would be sad to throw it out since it's such a nice large bottle.

I didn't say you have to try it on the heli.. something like the RC car wait for 24hours then try removing the bolt check to see if loctite works good. It would be dumb to try it on the heli

Alright... here's some information I found from some post on another forum. I'm still interested in your own experience but here's my contribution:

The "interesting" part about locktite is that it will NOT dry at all (well, maybe YEARS) before you tighten the screws

The Technical term for Loctite is "anaerobic thread locking compound" It doesn't cure until there is a lack a air (and some metallic ions)

One of the big breakthroughs that allowed the shipping of Loctite was the invention of a plastic that passed air, but not liquid

Another interesting factoid is that even though it has an expiration date on the bottle, it does NOT go bad. The date is on the bottle to satisfy the military, who requires chemicals to have an expiration date (No later than 5 years after mfg if I remember right) If you find an OLD bottle, you will actually find that the loctite does eventually ooze through the pores of the plastic, and you get a sticky bottle!

The stuff is also non toxic

So you CAN drink it! Yay!

That must be why the Align bottles are a mess, cheap porous plastic to let the air through.

I used to use liquid locktite, now i use only the gel type, no mess easy to apply. It comes out like tooth paste, just wicks the tip of the bolt and that's it. No messy liquid locktite runs all over the place if comes out too much and old locktite clogged the nozzle.

I don't know about you guys but my loctite doesn't run all over the place when I use it. You just use enough to wick into the threads which is not that much.

And as for if one year expired loctite holds... the verdict is...
It DOES! Works great. I used it on my Trex. Even after a couple hours I could feel it setting. And it definitely feels solid right now. I flew the heli this morning and it worked well.
