Funny that no germans have made any comments here. The only ones that have roads where it's actually upto you how fast you'd like to go.
It has been fun to actually drive legally at almost twice the speed on that sign. I didn't sit back to relax tho.....

Didn't bother much about fuel consumption either, noticed it passed 25 litres/100 kmh when I passed 125 mph, after that I kept my eye on the road...

Wow, having a 55mph speed limit must suck i though ours at 70mph was bad enough!!!

Most people in the UK see 100mph regularly

Some of us see quite a bit more

Montana has areas with no speed limit. My wife is from west Texas area and we went to visit last year, know I'm gonna get slammed for this but at times we reached 165 mph out on those flat in the middle of nowhere roads! We were cruising at 135 mph alot of the way. We made a usually five hour trip in three and half hours! Crazy...

Yup we have airplanes that clock you from the air to. but they don't have 50cal'a or rocket's on board... And my poor Big Chevy 4 door Truck will not do over 99mph it has a speed limiter on it.

As I left Sonora Tx. I see 2 Texas Troopers sitting under a bridge looking so sleepy or it could have been they were staged there for the next WRECK?

As far as I know this is the fastest POSTED Speed Limit Around!

Let's see Your Speed Limit..

John What The Heck were you driving! The fastest I have ever been was 155mph in a Porsche and a Doctor was driving..

Montana is one sweet piece of land.

In 1999 I drove across I90. While in Bozeman Mt I got pulled over in my 1991 Mustang Gt( Heads, cam, injectors, intake, full 2 1/2 exhaust, suspension, Tremec trans, 3:73 rear, NOS, insane RED paint and body work...you get my point!! Its was a fast car and had a sick rumble, I built it myself...350 horse,200NOS) Tires would break loose in 4th gear on the NOS!!! going sideways at 100 is crazy!!!!

I got pulled over going over 120mph I was most likely doing 150+ in that strech My speedo said 140 and it was WAY burried with the right gears too. The State officer told me it took him 10 miles to catch up to me. He asked me to get out of the car and talk to him. I explained I saw no speed limits posted, which was true all that was posted was NIGHT limits and TRUCK limits. He said in city limits I should have been down in the 80s.

Ok I asked how much is the ticket?...70$ he says!!!! In my mind Im thinking, "can I just pay you for 2 more and be on my way?"LOL I had no cash on me but had a credit card, so we went to a DET outpost and payed there, we averaged 100mph the whole way!!!

Ok now however fast the car went I did it, ever bounce the rev limiter in 5th gear?!?!?!(not a speed limiter, a rev limiter) In a super street Mustang? I bet I did 160+!!! I sold the car to my brother and he could not handle the power or the maintence...traded for a Vette.

On my GSXR 750 slingshot I maxed out at 145-150mph right here in Ct!! Right up I91 in my town...WOW that was insane!!! Would I do it again?...I sold the bike. Scary I would have killed myself quick!!

I guess Im hooked on speed, I never drive the speed limit, and most in CT drive 90+ up I91 on a daily basis. Looking to build another Mustang this spring. Boy do I miss that car, I dont think a day goes by without me thinking of it. The next one will be much better. HUGE car scene up here in CT!!!

Tim,
I was in my modified Mitsubishi Evolution, 390 hp. They are incredibly fast. Several years ago I got popped on a military base for 135mph in a 35 mph zone on a bike!! I had a broken arm at the time and the cop was so pissed(don't blame him) that he slammed me to the ground and was trying to put the cuffs over my cast! His partner had to pull him off me. Believe it or not, once they got me back to the station and found out what occupation was they let me go!! Super cool of them and I did slow my dumb azz down, way down after that. Also couple of years ago, good friend of mine is a Sheriff and I asked him to clock me on my GSXR 1100 out on an isolated straight road, he clocked me at 171 mph!! Fastest I've ever been on the ground. Stupid fast and yes I have been very stupid but my stupid fast days are over.

A policeman got so personally angry he slammed you to the ground, tried to cuff your broken arm and then put you in jail. Then on a personal whim, he decided to set you free. I don't think thats too super cool.

Yep, he sure did. But, to be honest I can't really blame the dude, I was being insanely stupid and deserved an ass kickin, I was doing 135 mph in a 35 mph zone! But yep, he sure was that pissed, even put deep gouges in my cast where he was trying to force the cuffs on. They didn't set me free on a personal whim, they set me free because they thought my job was a rough, stressful, dangerous job and decided that I deserved to be let go, that one time. I do think that was super cool as I would have been screwed had they followed thru.

This is the fastest speed limit in Texas and would bet the USA!!
If I remember correctly, there is a stretch of highway I-80 between Lincoln Nebraska and Onaha Nebraska that the speed limit is the same 80 mph.

Well if people "deserve" to get beat down because they were breaking the speed limit, I don't know what the world is coming to. Why was the cop angry anyway? Someone violating the law shouldn't make him want to hurt you should it?

Plus it bothers me that one guy rots in jail while another goes free because the cop respects your job. It just rubs me raw when a cop who is given power over the rest of us brings so much of his personal feelings into his job. He should have pulled you over, and if you weren't a threat, he should have politely written you a big ticket or if warranted, he could arrest you and have your bike impounded. NOT flip out and treat you like an animal.. Then decide ahh well he kinda likes you so you can go free.

Dusty, are you serious?? I was doing 100 mph OVER the speed limit, on a motorcycle, with a broken arm. Yes, I believe that sometimes some people deserve a good ass whipping to knock them back into line. He didn't "beat me down", he took me to the ground, a little hard I guess but I've taken much worse, and was trying to put cuffs on over a cast. What the world(or this country anyway) is coming to I believe is due to the PC attitude this country has been forced to adopt due to some bleeding heart.......well you know. I'm not calling you that so please don't take offense.
Plus it bothers me that one guy rots in jail while another goes free because the cop respects your job.
That's life, sometimes it hands you candy and sometimes it hands you a turd. So if you were a cop and you pulled over a Soldier just back from Iraq and then a little while later you pulled over someone whom you know is say, a drug dealer, and you pulled both of them over for the same minor offense, you wouldn't let the Soldier slide?? I would.......but that's just me. Call me a nut I guess.

I do not want to get into a debate here so guess I'll just keep my mouth shut. Hope you have a nice Thanksgiving!

On a trip back from Manchester to Sheffield I put my TOM TOM Sat Nav through its paces.....

On the way there we only managed 108mph but on the way back it was down hill & with the wind behind us

The photo was taken going through a built up area so I guess we were 6 times over the limit

It's a bit blurred cos I was holding the camera one handed. oh and it's not photoshopped.

Aren't limits there to be broken???

SubSailor: Yeah I'm serious, but it is a relief you don't want to insult or debate. I'm not a good debater, I'd lose anyway.

You did say the cop was angry and "slammed" you to the ground and his partner had to pull him off of you. It just blows my mind that you'd say you deserve that. I hope everyone doesn't think cops are supposed to beat them proportionally harder depending on how many miles over they limit they were driving.

I should have kept quiet, I know. I'm not a PC bleeding heart, trust me. Just this one subject is a sore wound for me, one of those things people might not have a problem with till you're on the taking end of it.

As a US Citizen I sincerely salute you for your service, and really mean it. Thank you.

dustyattic,

LOL, thanks because I suck at debating too, actually I'd probably be the one to lose! I understand where your coming from and I don't think cops should beat us just for speeding but I was being pretty stupid. I think one reason they let me go(besides the job thing) was probably because after he calmed down and thought about it for a bit he realized that he had crossed the line. I wasn't hurt or anything, though I was kind of banged up a little and dirty from being rolled around on the side of the road!

I'm glad you spoke up, you seem like a really nice, level headed person. I hope you had/have a great holiday and thanks for the "thanks for serving" statement. It was my pleasure.

Have a great weekend and I hope you get some serious flying time in, I know I plan too!!

Sincerely,
John

Funflyer,
Naahh, I was just being a fool. At the time I raced bikes(motorcycles) and thought I was the sh!t. Thought I was indestructable and had just enough functioning brain cells to get myself into some seriously stupid predicaments. It's amazing that I'm still alive.
