I'm new to scale and considering a Vario EC-135 for my first project (scale). Can someone tell me the difference between the two mechanics? Is it just engine choice or something different?

You really should be in the vario thread, but, the extreme mechanics are glow powered, and the other are G23 power (weed wacker engine). I strongly advise you not to build such a complicated first scaler. It is a terribly difficult model to build and have fly properly. Beautiful indeed, but maybe the BK117 or the EC 145 would be a better choice?

Not trying to deflate your balloon, trying to keep you in scale for a long time.

Both sets of mechanics are excellent, the gasser is more versatile.

I had the benzine version. If you must have the EC135 get the glow mechanics version. The petrol version is just too heavy for that helicopter and I believe this is what makes it too difficult to fly.
The guys who have the glow version have less issues flying it.

It was not under powered with the 230. With the four blade head and the fenesrton it flew like an army tank.
