I remember some of these same arguments when factories started going robotic. Everyone complained about the loss of jobs. What happened is it made products cheaper so our money went farther.
From my own experience I am the only income in my family of four. As a truck mechanic I am firmly planted in middle class. My wife has battled cancer for the past three years so I have plenty of medical bills. With all this I still have two cars on a 2002 dodge 4x4, my rc heli, 2002 snowmobile, DSL, digital cable, my own house, sizable 401k plan etc. When I compare my standard of living to my fathers when I was a child they are not even close. My father still doesn't understand how I can afford all the toys and extras I have because he never had "disposable" income. If Bush has been soo bad for the middle class I can hardly wait for the dems to put me in some beach front property with all they can do for the little guy
For all the problems there are I know I am still very blessed just to live here. There are people being killed in other countries just because of their religion or beliefs. Makes our problems seem quite small.
Life is too short to be angry.

There is a different way to think about all the jobs that may be outsourced to other countries. I've been in the IT field since 1975. Can you imagine the computer technology I've seen change. I've had to change my direction several times in my career.. Or, I'd be out the door. In this world now, our children need to be taught to not rely on anyone else to hand us anything and be ready to find a niche in the world (degree or no degree) as far as a career. You have to be willing to change and find what works. Just as you are in the AC business Jimco. I'll bet you have changed the way you've done your business over the years to make sure you have a job in the future. I don't plan on sitting around waiting on someone to hand me a job. If I don't look ahead, make necessary changes, then I'm toast! There are plenty of ways to make a living, there are too many people that want to start at the top! I started at the bottom @ 1.45 an hour in 73. I knew I could not achieve what I wanted in life at that rate, so I improvised through the years. Thank God I made changes along the way!

Torkrod: I agree with the everchanging situation: When I went into the ac business in 1973, everything was mechanical, contactors, defrost timers in heat pump systems, all appliance controls were mechanical. All cold controls. Fancy thermostat for an ac, was twin mercury bulb, two stage heat and cool.
Today, almost all condensing units have electronic time delay boards, most furnaces have electronic control boards for time delay and fan function. All combustion systems for gas are electronic, down to the ignition systems. Most of your higher dollar condensing units have control board with self diagnosis. Big difference.
One of the buildings that I take care of at the Alabama Coushatta Indian Reservation, has complete control of over 150 tons of split systems. Computer monitored 24/7. Amazing improvement over the old manual systems. Right up to the time that they break. Then, it's O<SHi5. Thats when being a technician comes into play. Old fashion ingenuity has to take over. Sometimes, you can't wait for the cute little computer part. Still takes the good old knowledge to get em up and going . Kinda like Directtv. Very nice when it's working, just don't get a thunder storm.

Man i just realized that jimcos idiotic logic is in numourous threads and not just the other one i was responding to!!
Bush has put the US at its' lowest point in history.
please if you could explain exactly what you are talking about? The lowest point in history related to what? unemployment? inflation? job creation? GDP?

You throw out comments with absolutly nothing to back them up and it makes you look retarded.

Now you espouse the days of the carter administration. Lets see inflation was 9x what is is today, interest rates 5x what they are today. Unemployment double what it is today. And people were paying a larger percentage of their income for gas then they are today!!

So please provide some facts of exactly what bush has put at its lowest point in history?

HMM thats funny my birthday is in my profile which you obviously read or you wouldnt have know my occupation.

Since its clear you have a hard time calculating age by a persons birthday let me help you. Right now it is 2006, i was born in 1980, so you subtract 1980 from 2006 and that gives you 26!

So we can now add the inability to subtract to your list of other qualities like the inabilty to spell, reason, debate or use facts to put your point acrossed..

wow its no wonder you were stuck in the AC business with such fine qualities.
