I am wondering if there is a big difference between 530mm and 550mm main otor blades. I ordered the wrong ones and like to know before I open them if I am going to have to change my set up alot.

Blade Size

We really need a little more info. What blades, what engine and heli? Basically you will overspeed the head with a shorter blade, but it all depends on the weight of the mains, and your motor / gear set size. If it is a stock raptor and you are just hovering at 1550 rpm it would probably be ok but if you are doing 3D at 2000 RPM themn there could be some trouble.

Blades

IF all things being equal (both blades are using the same airfoil, same construcion technique, same spanwise c.g. ratio, same chordwise c.g. ratio, same relative center of lift) then the shorter blade will require more rotor speed at the same pitch to generate the same lift. Conversly more pitch at the same R/S to creat the same lift.

Because the shorter blade will not have the same disc area and will be a lot lighter they will not auto as well. But while creating the same lift, they will be less affected by wind gusts and have slightly quicker cyclic.

So in case you haven't figured it out from the info above, yes they will work but you will have to reset the throttle/pitch curves to give more pitch at the same R/S or more R/S at the same pitch.

Thank you Guys

I just got my blades in yesterday and matched them up to find out that i ordered the right size. The Nexus uses 530mm blades not 550mm like the plans were saying. All your info though is helping me get higher and higher off the ground.

Next week maybe I will get an inch off the ground.

Thank you once again.
