Thanks for the info guys, looks like Rotorua in August is gonna be the place to be. Does Wellington have any other events other than the march one as I can't go anywhere that time of year.
(Clark?) Yeh Footy thats me thanks for your great service, since I started trying to learn 3D the T600 has started a love afear with the ground.

(Fly Hard), Definitly come up some time we fly in Richmond on Sun morning or if your keen I fly and sometimes others on a Sat morning in Motueka as well.

Helinut seems to be a bit of a champion with all those medals, unfortunatly for me I'll never be any comp. maybe I could make some and just pretend.

LOL....yeah a champion in my own lunchtime dude. Its because there was only 3 of us at the nats competing and it was very close but one other guy crashed two heli's. I only crashed one. At the other event there was.....ummm....only me. Rotorua was a win because I paid the judges.

You know my address. Send it fastpost!
Nice looking heli laywer boy. Is that the Rappy sitting in there?
Cheye if you go up to Rotorua I won't be there to get your heli out of the car and gas it up for you!

I'll prep Jason.
Thats great. I fly electric planes now too, so can you teach Jas how to charge them for me as well. You guys are just swell!!

Yeah Wayne, I am a bit slack with the newsletters sometimes

For those that dont get the NZ Heli Newsletter please goto http://www.rchelisnz.info and subscribe (bottom lefthand corner) *** It FREE ***

The weather is awful
Yes the weather is #$@%@ and the only way to get stick time in is to take it when you can, even if that means having to sneak away from work mid week. Last Thursday on my field looked like any normal Summer Sunday afternoon with so many fliers.

Anyway the good news is we have a couple of great events coming up and
hopefully some of you with direct links to these heli gods can put in a good word weather wise for us. I know some of you are well connected to higher authorities, I have seen you fly, so please put in good word in for some sun.

Tuakau Sunday Heli Collective – 20th July
There is a Funfly organised at the Tuakau field, this field is 5 minutes from Tuakau and is beside the Rugby League grounds with tar seal parking so you won’t need to waste fuel bringing the 4 Wheel drive Hummer.

Everyone welcome, plenty of space for beginners to hover around.

BBQ Lunch, small landing fee as usual.

Goto http://www.rchelisnz.info and click on the link for flying sites for directions.

Rotorua Scale & FF Helifest Weekend 23/24 August
Rotorua is again hosting another awesome heli weekend. These weekends are very popular
and always attract a good crowd.

So buddy up with a mate and save gas, bring along your Pod & Booms and if you have a nice scale machine chuck that in the boot too (Hmmm mine is still in it's box)

I am informed there are prizes being supplied by the following sponsors for the scale comp. RC Bandit, Hobby Hanger and Anything Scale (Thanks Sponsors)

Again everyone welcome, plenty of space for beginners to practise and lots of people willing To help with their technique and setting up their machines etc

BBQ Lunch both days, small landing fee all as usual. Saturday night we will find a nice warm Restaurant and sit around telling tall stories about that Heli that got away.

If you are interested in night flying contact Wayne ASAP so he organise if there is enough interest. Email: wayneandjulie@xtra.co.nz

Goto http://www.rchelisnz.info and click on the link for flying sites for directions.

Waitangi Heli Rumble 2009 6-8th Feb2009
Make sure you have these three day marked with the wife, partner or boss at work as your "Business Time". Like previous events we have had including Curtis Youngblood, Jason Krause & Alan Szabo, we are pleased to announce this is another International star studded event.

We have now honoured to have Bobby Watts (USA) agree to come to this event.

Over the next few months, there will be more announcements about location, other overseas guests and how to pre Register etc

This will be the RC event of year for 2009 and we expect a huge turnout of fliers and sponsors to get behind this event and make it a great success. People are still talking about the success we had with the Jason and Alan several years ago. Be assured this will be bigger and better.

Heli Sig Meeting Two Weeks Ago
Several weeks ago your Heli Sig Commitee had a 5 hour meeting to discuss the state of model heli flying in NZ. We accessed the Heli Survey results (thanks to all those that filled in the survey)

I am happy to say that things all look positive and hopefully by the time you read this the full Committe minutes will be available on the website.

Hi I'm Glenn. You can come down this way and I'll help you with the raptor. I'm in Levin or just south of.
What mode do you fly?
Glenn

Yeah I know...you guys will be a lot happier!

The 400 needs 3 of us as I am in sole charge of the napkin holder and am there to make sure the other guys get their beauty sleep....(lots of it!) Last two trips on the 400 for me then back onto the 2 holer. But September in hamilton is looking good.

mode 1. do you fly 3d by any chance. It would be great if someone could give me some lessons. pretty much mastered inverted hover and going from there to circuits. im getting there with tic-tocs and funnels. also I asked grant from rc hobbies this question. do you reckon it would be possible to do a inverted auto with a 30 without 50km/h winds or would a 50 be the smallest size. he said nah dude wait till the 90 is flying but even if the 30 crashed and burned the adrenline would make it so worth it I think. Anyone know if anyone has done it before with a 30.

hey mate, I fly mode 1 and can do some reasonable 3d (IMO anyway)
Inverted autos with a 30 would be possible but quite hard I would imagine. You see guys doing them with 50's left right and center, But if your going to learn to do them Id start with a good set of blades and a good breeze, Oh and dont forget "ALTITUDE". I wouldnt try to "learn them" on a 90 tho, again just my opinion.

wayne and johnny are the men to talk to abut inverted auto's.

It's all about energy management. A 30 has less weight than a 50 but not a whole lot. It has smaller blades. The engine makes zero difference to an auto. The reduced blade size gives them less inertia however this is partly compensated for by the reduced weight and therefore lift requirement and subsequent drag penalties are reduced.

So yes they can be done....just manage your energy well. It's easier with a 90 due to lift weight ratio on an auto and the intertia carried in the blades.

Used to have great fun doing autos with a mini-titan and trex 450, probably harder then a 30 but less pucker factor. Its definetly do-able though. Just practice lots on the sim first and when you decide to attempt it just start with having your throttle hold quite a bit higher then normal and practice bailing out every time. When your comfortable then don't flick out of throttle hold and fly it all the way down
