Hey Jason,

thanks for posting that littlerotors website, its got some nice tips with learning and he describes moves in a way you can understand which is nice;

I didn't even think about following the blades in nose in, awesome tip. I can almost hold the heli on the SIM in nose for a full tank, can't wait to get back out in the field.

---

Damn I wish I wasn't so broke atm I would so buy a 450/500 to practice on about now.

Considering el-cheapo batts which burst to 40c can be had for around $220nzd they can't be too bad on older generation motors like the 600l or even XL.
Swwweeeeet! Thats only 69% of a new 50 Hyper and I am sure it will last for at least 100 charges before losing capacity and they are making them solidly crash proof now too!! LOL Sorry I am being an ass Ian....LOL

You won't see all of them in NZ Jack. Not enough demand for all the variants. However, we will be bringing in the G10 framed option most likely in the next kit shipment.

It's just like the Knight Factory 50 kit. A whole lot of metal and bling that makes the heli heavier than a K3D with no performance increase. There would be little demand but if someone wants something specific, then Kevin can add a special kit to a shipment if people want of course.

Doing some quick maths reveals something interesting:

440cc Tank on a Arign 600

1 litre of fuel = 1000cc

This means you get 2.3 flights to a litre.

So you need 43.5 litres to achieve 100 flights.

What's a litre of 20% nitro fuel? $13 say so that's $559 for $100 flights.

A decent battery will get 100 good cycles and another average 100 cycles before retiring. So lets say I buy a TP 5000 30c at $579 divide by 2 (For your 100 flights) $289.5 not bad.

When you add in the cost of a Hyper 50 as well the numbers get real bad for Nitro :O

Yes I know charging times, multiple batts, flying time etc but purely on a flight vs flight it's cheaper to go leccy

Plus what Kevin said.

This is like a Holy War. It never ends well.

Frankly, Nitro and Electric have their merits. I hate short flight times, dropping power throughout the flight, the chance to toast a battery in a crash and low numbers of Cycles on a battery before it loses its ability to hold a full charge, waiting for batteries to charge etc.

Others like plug and play, no tuning, no mess, no fuss.

Horses for courses....

You are NOT comparing apples to apples though. What's the average flight time on an electric? On a tank of Nitro? Only when you compare minutes to minutes worth of flying do the real numbers come out. All 'flights' are not created equal...

For anything over 500 size, it's got to be Nitro for me...at least I can pay as I go. Try having fun with only ONE battery pack.

At this time we plan on only:

Kit+motor+Blades+ESC in both versions. People want to be plug and play with Electrics for the most part....

We should take this off list Jack. Just PM me or Kevin and we can work it out for you. The G10 Kits are not due into our hands for a while yet...

Some more maths for flight time costs:

So to achieve 100 mins of flight on a 600 nitro you need:

5.4 ltrs assuming average flight is 8 mins this = $65 of nitro

To get the same from an electric you need to use 25 cycles (4 min flight time)

So $579 / 200 cycles = 2.9 per cycle. 25 * 2.9 = $72.5 per 100mins

Nitro wins, but only when you don't add the extra bits like glow plugs, bearings etc.

Like Jason said tho it's what you like flying, personally i'd prefer Leccy but don't fancy potentially destroying 200 flights worth of battery in one go (Specially if i had to sell a leg to buy it)

If I get a 90size electric, I would put a fibre glass box around the batteries, like I did with the Trex500. That should stop the
crashing problem with batteries. I hope.

website idea's?

Completely off note with current topic but I need a little input from a few people;

I used to run a few websites back in my Uni days and I'm itching to start up another, I was thinking of doing something for this hobby but can't really think of what to do, It doesn't have to be to do with Heli's specifically.

Does anyone have any thoughts on a website that is needed or a service / resource that we could do with, I'm pretty proficient with web design and looking for a little side hobby, if anyone has any idea's please post or pm me.
