Just wondering how long did it take you? First learned to hover tail in with a Blade a year ago. Presently, with my TREX doing FFF, figure 8s,piros, side in and still struggling with nose in. I can take off tail in then spin it around and I can hold it a few seconds but panic and flip it around. I can do circles in front of me and I can fly it straight to me without panicing but when it stays still and the Rex looks at me I freak Oh well SIM time

Well, I started flying the Trex this past April.

I'm pretty much doing the same things you are, figure 8s, FFF, piros, etc. Yes, I can hold nose in for a few seconds and then bail out.

Side in no problem.

geez, I can't do most of the stuff you guys can do. I can hover tail in and do some really crappy piros. I'm learning nose in now and its not really too bad, but I practiced a lot on the sim first and I make sure to remind myself that the controls are backwards. I think its easier to start nose in then it is to flip around to nose in, I've tried that a few times but where I fly around my house, I don't have the luxury of being more than 8 feet up or so max, usually i'm about 5 feet up.

It took me 1 year (20 hours). I have been flying around, slow fig 8s, ff like you guys. I would come in slow, hover for 30 seconds and then push forward and chicken out. 3 weeks ago I bought the Clearview simulator. 9 hours nose in on the sim in 5 days. Then I went out and did 3 node in landings (good ones). The sim was worth the $30, no doubt ablout it.

Guys,

This may help.

With the Heli nose in and slowing to a hover, imagine that the cyclic stick on your transmitter is a pole that you move to prop up any dropping side of the heli.

For instance, if the heli drops the left side of the rotor as you view it from nose in (which is really the heli's right side), move the cyclic stick to the left to 'prop' it up. This puts in a left command to counter the drift to the heli's real right side.

Good luck & persist with the nose in as once conquered, it opens up a whole new area of flying.

Negative values of altitude equate to negative values of bank balance

I find that if you can come to to realisation that regardless of whether you are nose in or tail in, if you push the cyclic stick forward the nose will move forward, pull it back and the tail will move backwards (this is the easy part as you simply cannot get the nose and tail mixed up), then you are only left to deal with left and right motions. If you can tail in hover in your sleep then you only have to remind yourself to prop the low side up when nose in. Keeping saying it in your head when the nose is pointing at you 'low side up, low side up, low side up...'

As others have said before slowing down figures of 8 in the middle gives you an easier escape route then tryingto spin around 180 degrees.

Once you've hovered a whole pack nose in move on, don't get hung up on perfection, and enjoy buzzing the thing around at crazy speeds :0)

I'm fine with nose in now but it did take time. I think half the prob is that the heli looks so much different when ur under it on an angle that u can't tell if it's coming at u or flying backwards!

I've been flying my XL for few months, aerobatics and funnels etc but still wont do a nose in landing. That's a bit riskier

Altho i do nose in landings on my 50 no problems and love hovering it nose in as it looks so much sweeter (oh and less noisy and less fumes)

Stick-with-it approach

taught me in a 4 tries.

with the heli facing you (nose-in)
if the heli creeps to YOUR right (ITS left)
then RIGHT aileron
if the heli creeps to YOUR left (ITS right)
then LEFT aileron
if the heli creeps toward you (ITS foreward)
then BACK elevator
etc,etc,

the aim is to follow the heli with your inputs (ail and ele) to keep it steady

if i have not explained properly or if i have confused u more, then i apologise

It took me a couple weeks .......I just took it up high and learned to hold it looking at me .......then got it down lower and lower and lower.

Also the hover in... it sets you up for flying backwards .......just steer the tail and you got another move in.
