I deal with a company that has one of those machines. I'm a little afraid to try it in case I screw them up. The foam you can buy at Home depot doesn't work, I tried it in a plastic bag and it seems to need air to expand.

I had the Twist out at the field today. It few like a champ for the first half of the day then the motor started acting weird. I changed the plug with an OS8 but that didn't help. I had three dead stick landings that went really well. I pulled the tank and checked the clunk. I also pulled the carb adjustment limiters they put on from the factory. I'm hoping that I'll be able to get it adjusted better without them seeing as how I'm running 30% heli fuel through it.

The good news it that the field (other than by the tables) is fairly dry. The bad news is that the quad guys are back and they're tearing up the landing strip part of the field. There are a lot of donut marks now.

Sunday I'm biking it so I'll be there tomorrow if anyone cares to join me.

Fuel
Don,

Buy a gallon of 15% and see what happens. I never had a dead stick unless I ran out of fuel. The 30% heli fuel you have has 23% oil, the limiters could be the issue as it could be too rich with that fuel.

How was the motor reacting? Was there alot of vibrations? Pull the exhaust off tonight just to double check the piston for any scoring.

Other then those listed I would have to see it run. I could meet you at our local field tomorrow with some 15% fuel to try.

Unfortunately I pulled the limiters off and I'm starting from zero. I did pull the muffler and head when I got home and everything is looking good.

I really don't want to carry two grades of fuel with me all the time unless it's a last resort. I'll try and dial it in tomorrow as well as try a hotter Enya 3 plug. If I can't get it right then I'll pickup some 15%.

Although it started having issues later in the day, the first part of the day was a blast. I do need faster servos though. I threw in an 8311 for the throttle when I got home. It's overkill and not much faster than the servo that was in there but it is a little faster. It's a lot of fun though!

What servos should I be looking at to hop this thing up a little more?

I think that puppy needs to be leaner I run the Magnum 30% heli fuel with 20% oil so I would bet you need to be leaner.

As far as servo's....is money a issue 9451's with Six Volts or throw those Airtronics servos you have in there

I am running Futaba 3152 on six volts only because I had them but if I had to pick servo's up for a 3D Funfly 40 size I would choose the Hitec's 625MG servo's. I am running those 9451 on my Edge and they are overkill!

I would get the Hitec 625MG and a six volt pack.

I think you should fly mine and see if you want it faster before you throw money into it.

You mentioned a six volt pack. Is this a regulated 7.4 Li-Ion or Li-Poly? I'm not sure I want to start getting that serious

I upgraded the 600mah pack that came with it to a 1400mah. It's funny how little power these things require when you're using all analog.

I actually pulled out a Hyper I have but the carb was a little wide and would require cutting the nose out a bit

Hitec HS-985MG Coreless Ultra Torque HD MG Servo

Do these things really need that much torque? I had no idea!

I was joking
All you need if want to spend some money on good servos are the 625MG, they are more then enough for a plane this size. They also perform well with a 6V pack. I stopped using regulators on my planes and the Hitec's seem to like the 7.40 fully charged pack then the JR & Futaba.

With any metal geared servo you will notice a difference. They are some nice Hitec's that have the Karbonite gears that are fantastic but the price of those start at $80.00....not needed for this plane.

I buy my battery packs from here http://www.hangtimes.com/index.html

I use the Intellect HR-1400 High Rate Rx / Ignition Pack. They have very low resistance and fit perfectly in the Twist and many other planes.

You can get the Hitec's 625MG from Linda for $40.00 Each.

Did you change all the hardware to 4-40?

Wait
Don,

Before you do anything bring the damn thing here and let me check the throws with the meter.

I am sitting here thinking and I remember JOE is running 537 with standard hardware and that thing will roll faster then your eye's can keep up.

I don't want you to spend money on things that may not be needed.

Fm2 3D mode
Put the thing in 3D mode and then let me know. FM0 is used for trimming the plane and just flying around casually. Don't be scared it's only a plane Just stay high until you get used to it. I take off and land in 3D mode. You may need more expo.

That thing is an animal! I made a couple of adjustments again today to th eengine tuning and the RevMax. I was able to fly it pretty hard but it still makes me nervous.

The Bell47 experienced another lockout and went in pretty hard. I'm not sure if I'll rebuild it since the metal boom got pretty twisted. What a shame, I really enjoyed flying that thing. I had been flying that more than the other helis.

I finally got the motor on the twist running really good with Toms help. It was flying so nice that I figured it was time to fly it "through" the only tree in the field! It looked like it went through a strainer! I was having a lot of fun with that as well. Just another day at the field for me.

I gotta find another hobby!

I did but I hadn't put them on it yet. Something about that setup is causing lockouts. I thought I had it figured out but I was wrong.

Yes, that lonely little tree all by itself. Like running into a cloud, how the hell did I hit that! It was running really well too. I was having a blast with it all morning. A brand new one only costs $100.00, imagine that. The whole kit is cheaper than a set of CF blades!

I'm so glad I was there to entertain him!
