Jeff,

We got the pit area formed up in the afternoon. Only lacked the steel and expansion joint.

Yes I believe so. Now I am not sure if they are going to extend on what we did.

Awesome! Sorry I didn't make it out on the 30th to help, I totally forgot my niece was getting married. For some reason my sister didn't think I should miss it.

I can't wait to get back to the field and fly. My Protos has lost a bunch of hardware out of the head and I need to see how it works....

I was at ARCA today. Concrete has been poured and forms are removed. Ready for some re-grading. Looks real nice.

Flying 6/20?
Looks like there's a plane fun fly at the field Saturday 6/20. Where are you guys planning to go for heli flying?

Chris,
I plan on flying at the Georgetown field. But I don't know what time.

I don't know if you have heard of the WAA-08 event. But it is a group of guys flying a small plane in every state in the union.

The plane is currently in Kerrville and I should be receiving it any day now. The pilot ahead of me is waiting for favorable winds.

With any luck, I will pick it up from him today or tomorrow and fly it at Georgetown on Saturday.

Then I head up I35 to take it to the next pilot.

If anyone is interested in the WAA-08, their web site is http://www.waa-08.org.

That's neat, Joe! I've heard of that but didn't know it was coming through town. I know what you mean about 'favorable winds'. I've got a new micro heli (LAHeli Ricco) that I've flown a couple of times, but I need to get some good video of it for a review. This darn wind has been relentless. Usually wind drops off at dusk, but this one hasn't. *sigh*

Spektrum receiver antenna protection?
Is anybody here somehow protecting the antenna leads from a Spektrum receiver? I seem to recall somebody in ARCA doing so with what looked like pink fuel tubing (and have seen pictures online of similar).

Any specifications on the inner diameter of the stuff being used? Is it actually fuel tubing, or something stiffer (maybe some sort of surgical tubing)? Have a suggested place to purchase?

Cheers,
Dave

David,
I don't know about fuel tubing. But I have seen, and used, a small length of heat shrink tubing to help damp vibrations on the antenna.

The issue I have seen is that the wire vibrates and creates a stress point where it exits the plastic case. This causes excessive wear on the wire at that point leading to premature failure (basically the wire breaks right at the exit point).

The heat shrink acts to reduce the wear at that point and the wire doesn't break anymore.

If you are talking about abuse of the wire through normal handling of the aircraft, I have not seen anyone use fuel tubing to fix this. However, I have been concerned about this type of abuse eventually damaging my antenna. However, I have not had any issues with this to date.

But I like the idea of using fuel tubing to protect the wire. My guess is that fuel tubing for the 049 type engines would be about the right size. I think standard fuel tubing would be too big.

I hope that is helpful,
Joe

While we are on the Spektrum issue, where does one (or can one) get a replacement antenna for the DX7? Mine mysteriously broke in my heli case last week and I need to replace it but I haven't been able to find a replacement part for it!!

Ok. I think I am ready to start flying helicopters again. After almost 2 months of hard work I (myself) finished the deck today. We will celebrate with a keg of beer tonight

David, that was probably me. I use the small "1/2A" size fuel tubing (for the .049 engines). You should be able to get it at the local HobbyTown. Works great on all except the AR6100. For those, I just put a blob of hot glue around the antenna where it comes out of the case to keep it from flexing. I guess one could slip the fuel tube on first and then hot glue (or GOOP) it.
