Hi out there...
Newbie with mx400, (Blade CP..time in last couple months)and this is what is happening.
2100ma Lipo to JST male connector (20AWG)
Female JST connector on 20AWG, (about 3 inches wire), then soldered
to ESC wire with shrink wrap over junction.
Twice, within about 4 to 5 minutes of nervous hovering, the machine shuts down completely, smoke from under the machine, identified as molten insulation and a short, just behind the female connector.
The insulation was melted together, and consequently the short.
Aluminum wire. No damage to electronics etc. Connector replaced.
With same wire guage between battery and JST connector, I'm wondering why the female is taking the hit (no gender joke intended)
The Esc is rate for 35 Amps.
NOw the obvious solution is to go to better connectors, and maybe better gauge wire, but probably a fuse should be introduced, I think?
Anyone else have the same or similar experience..

OTOH, MAN..what a difference from the Blade, can't get over the dynamics of the head speed and cyclic sensitivity....geeze, back to bottom of learning curve again....but I like it..!!!!!
