I was on the phone with Greg for about an hour and 1/2 and we couldn't get the slider assigned and functioning properly. I can't believe how complicated they've made that radio. I definately feel his pain. And I was considering getting a 12Z. Maybe I don't need those headaches.
It helps if the damn thing works properly!

I am considering the 12Z too, but I will wait a bit longer until the 2.4GHz spread spectrum modules are out and tested.

Anne-Marie Cross is probably raking it in with her books on how to program those radios!
I've got her book on the 9C. Great stuff! And I thought I knew everything only by reading the manual... I realized how wrong I was when I read her book.
I guess I have been spoiled by always using JR radios
When I bought my 10X I thought it was too complicated and difficult to program. Now I think it is as easy as my 9C. It's always like that when one is faced with a new piece of equipment. There is always a learning curve...

Hitec $200.00
12Z $1400.00 +
By the time i learn how to use it i will be dead.

Lets see while everyone was flying or doing something the week end before i spent friday night,Sat till 2:00 in the morning and Sun from 7:30 till 12:00 tring to get 12Z set. Stat home till 11:00 am monday working on it.
Almost the same this week end most of Sat and Sunday working on it.
I think the 12Z is costing me a heck of a lot of time.
Ratio is 1 12Z owner to 120 thousand 9303 users.
If you have a 9C or a 9303 then there is a ton of guys that can help.
I think i am the only one trying to set up a Spartan on a 12Z.

I hate to be the one to say it but it may be time to trade down to a JR9303 then at least you can use the radio instead of having to go take a 2 day course at Futaba on how that 12z works and you probably will never use half of the goodies it has . JMO If you had even a Futaba 9 there is a ton of people with both that can help with programing . I myself have looked at that 12z on the computer and it has over 50 some pages or more, I think more of programing instructions. I know I could never do it . Anyway it is just a suggestion .

I am sure they didn't make a radio for one person. Is there an online manual? Maybe the manufacturer has a forum that would help you better with the radio part.

Harris it isn't a awful and unusable it is just to me more than you need unless your flying something special that needs all those bells and whistles . I had looked at the manual also and also spent a considerable amount of time on the phone with Greg . I think he could have got 3 JR9303 for what that 12z cost.

AP-2000i firmware loader

We have released a new version of the firmware loader. This is the Windows application that loads the firmware on the AP-2000i and not the firmware itself. This version is a much more elegant and a mere 20KB (compressed) as oppose to the previous terrible VB implementation which was a huge 3.8MB with the runtimes. However it requires .NET to be installed which should by now be available in most computers…. or can be downloaded free from Microsoft.

The new firmware loader has a working “Detect” button and does no longer take the piss saying: “I told you not to press the detect button”. Some of you guys will know what I mean ;-)

Also, it has the ability to automatically load the latest version from our website or you can choose a local file if you prefer.

If your AP-2000i needs updating please give it a try a let me know what you think.

Cheers,
Angelos

What percentage is the gain at when you perform the test? it will display on the screen.

Are you certain you have set the stabilizer active in the menu and turned up the gain?

Hi DJVegh,

Also all cables following the instruction, the black at bottom and after that is the red(or orange) from the sensor. Sensor cable color are green - yellow - red - blue

The stabilization feature is default set to OFF. You must scroll through the AP2000i screen until you find "Stab OFF". Switch to "Stab IRx". You should also have your sensor mounted in the IRx configuration, ie. sensor lead toward the front of your heli.

Turning the stabilization on is a commonly missed step.

Hi Mark,

Do I see that you have integrated 2x GY-401 with the Ap-2000i to stabilize your flybaless R50 ?

How does it fly with that cocktail of electronics ?

Hi Keith I have the Spartan RC Firmware Down-loader I have detected the dongle thing and all that . The only other problem I have is opening the AP2000I HEX File . Now the book and the web-site say it can be found and down-loaded from the web-site, but that hex file is what I can't find .

It is on the AP-2000i page right above to the firmware loader. It is zip compressed. http://www.spartan-rc.com/products/ap2000i/ap2000i.htm

If you have the old loader application delete it and get the new one. The new hex file will not work with the old loader. The new loader also has a "get from web" button that will automatically download the latest version of the hex from our website.

George

I haven't had the weather cooperate long enough to fly now that I've got the IR sensor installed. But, I've no reason to expect it will not perform just as well as on a flybar equipped heli.

However, it is flying quite well without the flybar. Despite my limited gyro tweeking knowledge, I've got it performing as well as with the flybar and green paddles. The cyclic response is a bit faster, of course. I had saved the parts incase I wanted to switch back to the flybar. I think I'm hooked. Looks alot better w/o the flybar, too
