From what I have read I can change the crystal in a 9Z TX module easily. Can I go from CH 20 to CH 44 without needing to send the module to a service center ?

If the module has a crystal without having to open it up then yes you can change the channel/crystal. If you would like to change the frequency ie... 72meg to 35meg then you will have to purchase another module.

Changing the xtal inside the 9Z module is illegal. You must have it done by a licensed professional. Like JB indicated, unless it is in plain view and you don't have to open anything to change it, then you are good to go.

ScareCrow is correct. You have three options.
1- Send in your current module to Futaba and have them retune it. About 3 weeks and U$40.
2- Sell your current module for U$40 and buy a new one for U$60.
3- Sell your current module for U$40 and buy the Synth module for U$130.

OK, Thanks.

Hobby Services will change freq for $20 plus shipping. Radio South in Pensacola gets $25 and can do it on the spot. I might be able to get down to Pensacola and get it done. Guess the chance of finding someone to who would trade a ch 44 for my ch 20 would be slim to none.

Legalities aside, please have someone who can check the tuning do it. If you happen to get a crappy crystal that knocks the tune way out, you could "splatter" over into adjacent frequencies and cause trouble for others. Way back before I knew what was right, I did a crystal swap in a module. I lost that model with radio trouble shortly thereafter. I'm thoroughly convinced I caused that problem by detuning the module.

I just ordered a new module. Better safe than sorry.
