I know not everyone is trying to make money doing this, but for those of you who are in this for more than just purely a hobby aspect, how many of you have made all the money back that you've invested? If you have, how long did it take? What about those doing it part-time?

Mark me down on the list as have not.

I was lucky in that 80% of my clients were already existing before I started flying.

i think a major point is where your located and if someone else is already captured the market. If theres lots of potential customers and not one else around doing the same thing, your chances are much better....i do this full time here but would be hesitant to start up again in someplace out 5 hours from any major growing city.

as far as making back the insvestment, if your customers realize that your not the "cheap alternative to real heli's" but more likely the "cheap alternative to hiring a 200 foot crane for 3 days" , you could probably make back your invest ment in a few jobs....

agree.

The climate where I live is colder and gets that way. From Oct to april almost I cannot fly without a transmitt and a love for the wind.

Yes it can be done though and insurance is out there, but it takes unearthed persistance and help from outside sources.

I'm not too worried about getting at least some business once I'm ready to start marketing, I'm still getting geared up right now. But just looking at it from a total business perspective, it makes me wonder how many people are profitable netwise, not gross. It seems like it's real easy to drop alot of benjamins here and there for new helis, cameras etc, and there go the profits.

I started this in June 2003 as a full time venture, but my wife has a very good job so I did not have to feed the family.

Since I had the Logo 20 and the cam the investments were mostly advertising on the VW T4 Bus and flyers, homepage, a olympus A4 photo printer, etc.

went out of 2003 + - 0 but with loads of knowledge

until November this year I have now flown over 300 customers and just returned from a three week vacation to Mauritius.

next year will be better still since i now have the budget for some advertising in selected print media. all comming together very nicely.

over the winter time i work part time as a flight instructor in a flight simulator center. that way i can coast till may when my ap business picks up again. also this is the time to get out and get the business.

plus setting up a new gasser and another mount for the sony r1.

i would do it again.

but the again i am a optimist
