Had to post this, as I'm so chuffed.

Down at the field today, got my Raptor 50 setup with a buddy box, and let my son loose on it.

First tank we spent hovering (or rather he did), 2nd tank he went out and did some circuits - we were both over the moon. I was a nervous wreck, as I've never done buddy before, but luckily I never had to take control.

He can already fly fixed wing, so that helped him a bit, and he's also been practicing on the sim, where he can sit there nose in, do stationary flips (all dirs), rolls, loops, stall turns.

I got him a Trex a while back, and he'd managed a circuit on that before, but they're so twitchy, I thought it'd be fairer to let him go on the Raptor. He's a little 8 year old, so he was pretty nervous (the Raptor's bigger than him) - there's a pic of him a year ago on my gallery, so you'll see what I mean :-)

I think a lot of youngsters have got the ability to pick this up, so long as you've got the nerves as a parent - let them get good on the sim, and then let them shock you down the field.

Now, I'll have to get a bit more practice in myself, otherwise before long he'll be catching me up !!

I'll give it about 4/5 more trips to the field and I reckon he'll be onto loops, flips, but we'll see :-) - Oh, and I better give him a bit more negative before we try that !!

Cheers,

Darren

Darren,

I know what you mean. My 8 year old is flying planks now and he has been practicing on G3 flying heli's and he is doing great. I got him and Evo 50 and a JR 9303 for Christmas, so he will be flying real soon.

Chase - 3 and driving your Traxxis (or rather his now !!) - that's way cool !!

Just goes to prove my point - at this age, they're like little sponges, let them get some practice in on a sim, and then start mixing in the real thing !!

Maybe there should be some competitions for the under 10's !!

What's really amazing, is that certainly on the planks, which he's been flying for a couple of years now, I thought he'd be tearing round the sky and I'd be buying a new model every few weeks, but it's actually the opposite - he always goes so high to practice new stuff - way too sensible (makes me look stupid, when I'm showing off low down and then I goof !!).

Meant to say - think he's got a long way to go before he starts kicking especially as we go to the same club as Duncan Osbourne, who's his idol, but that's actually one of the things that makes him eager.

Duncan's just awesome !!
