The front wheel on the Bell 230 comes into contact with the fuse when the retracts are down (Vario retracts)and the body weight compressses the spring.I have seen mention of this somewhere but cannot remember the solution.
I can only think of two ideas:

1) Increase the size of the spring on the damper so it cannot compress all the way.

2) Make up a small spacer to fit in the damper to prevent contact with the fuse.

If anyone can shed any light on this or give their opinion as to which method would be better, I would be very grateful

Tim.

Tim,
A "known" problem. I experienced this with my Airwolf and, I think you have arrived at the same two conclusions I did and I went with a spacer (washers in multiple until I got the space I needed). Finding a spring turned out to be a major "goat rope," although I can say I tried.

Good luck to you!

I too had to same problem with a couple of scalers I built with retracts. The way I overcame it was to take a very small piece of plastic tube bought from a hobby shop and cut it about 3 or 4 mm thick. and put in inside the housing that holds the spring and pin that slides in. Make sure the inside diameter will accomodate the pin. This kept my front wheels from hitting the underside of the fuse.

Chris,
Man! That's another idea, yet! I hadn't thought of that one. And, that would give you some cushion, to boot.

Christopher,
Take a look at the gallery. Had hoped to have flown it by now, however dealing with turbine heat dissipation has slowed progress down a bit.

Hey Wolfdad! Awesome gallery, I was wondering if you bought or had manufactured that dual exhaust system on your evac. It looks great, would love to know where you got it!

I went to the local hardware store and bought heavier springs .... I think they were like $0.50 each .. Get the spring about 1/4" longer then compress it as you install.
